Let’s Catch Up: Baby Shower for Baby G

Happy Monday, friends! I figured that we could all catch up today. We’ve been up to a lot here over at the Gomez household over the last week, which is why I’ve been largely out of pocket recently. Last weekend was our baby shower for Baby Gomez, and we’ve had a lot of company in from out-of-town as a result of that. Our house is back in order, and I feel recovered and rested. (No one ever mentions the exhaustion you can feel in your third trimester).

Baby Shower Location

I had mixed feelings about where to have a baby shower. I still have a lot of family in California, and Aaron’s family is in Belton, Texas. But, our community of friends is here in Houston. When we told our best friends that we were pregnant, my friend, Mariam, immediately offered to throw us a shower here in Houston. And, as soon as she said it, it just made sense. Aaron and I have been so busy here in Houston, that we weren’t sure we would actually be able to make a trip back to California for a baby shower – and the logistics of getting gifts back here Houston would be a bit complicated. So, Houston made the most sense, and I figured that my mom and some extended family could come into town to stay with Aaron and I. My friend hosted in her beautiful new home, which is pretty close to ours!

Hostesses

I had five of my best friends ask to host this shower. And, they wouldn’t let me lift a finger to help. And ya’ll. It was such a beautiful shower. It was everything that I could have asked for and more. It was a gorgeous day filled with love, family and friends, and Aaron and I are just so thankful!

The Spread

It was a brunch theme, and the hostesses had food for days! There was more than enough food for everyone.

I’ve eaten a greek yogurt with fruit and granola every morning for breakfast, so of course, it had to make an appearance!

Those croissants in the back are from Common Bond Bakery here in Houston. If you are local – and have never tried a pistachio croissant, run – don’t walk – to go grab one.

There was quiche, there was chicken, there were pancakes and a cheese board. And last, but not least, the most delicious cake.

Out-of-town guests

Aaron’s mom and grandma came in from out of town. My mom and cousin made the trip from California. And, one of my college roommates, Jenny, flew in from Lubbock for the weekend. My heart was so full to see so many of my favorite people in one room. I had the chance to do lunch with Jenny (who stayed with my friend, Kim) on Saturday before the festivities kicked off on Sunday!

And, on Saturday night, I was able to do dinner with my grandma and aunt who came in to Houston from out-of-town for the shower. It was really a special weekend.

Here are a few of my favorite shots from the baby shower.

That’s me and my cousin, Melissa. Remember: she’s the one who got married last April.

These are ladies that have become my friends over the last several years! They went to school with Krob – and we’ve become close over the last several years.

This is my “little” from my sorority (I was a Zeta), but she lives here in Houston, and I’m glad she could be there.

And these are the ladies on my fabulous team at work! It meant so much that they came to celebrate our growing family.

Baby G walked away with so many things to celebrate him! And, instead of cards, everyone brought books to start his little library!

So Thankful

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Aaron and I are incredibly lucky to have a group of supportive family and friends in our lives. They say that it takes a community to raise a child, and we feel so very held up, seen and supported by our community who are equally as excited for us to welcome a new baby boy into our family. Our community has completely cleared our baby registry – and we feel more prepared than we ever could be to welcome our baby boy. Now, I just need to finish growing him. 🙂

So, I’ll leave ya’ll with that on this Monday. That’s what we’ve been up to. We’ve been organizing things, saying goodbye to our guests and getting our house ready for baby G. I’ll be back on Wednesday with more of what we’ve been up to!
