Valentine’s Day 2023

valentines day

Happy Wednesday to all! I hope you had a fab Valentine’s Day yesterday. Aaron and I don’t do Valentine’s Day gifts, but we do make it a point to exchange cards – and try to come up with small ways to make the day extra special. I normally do cinnamon rolls or something special for breakfast to mark the occasion, but if I’m being completely honest, we’ve had some early mornings around here this week – so I needed to stick to my usual greek yogurt.

Valentine's Day

Aaron did kick off Valentine’s early this year by bringing home these beauties from Chick Fil-A this weekend. He knows the way to a pregnant-woman’s heart.

I felt conflicted about Valentine’s Day this year. As a mom-to-be, I feel a lot of pressure to celebrate the “lasts.” The “last Valentine’s Day before baby,” the “last Christmas as just the two of us,” “the last vacation before baby arrives.” But, here’s my thought on that. I think it’s great to cherish those memories as a husband and wife. Aaron and I have been married for six years, and we have created so many amazing memories in those years. I feel ready to take on this next chapter. And instead of feeling like I need to mourn the “lasts,” I’m savoring these moments – and looking forward to all that is to come.

VDay 2023

So, all that to say I still didn’t feel the need to plan anything elaborate. We like to keep it relatively low-key over here for Vday. I try to brainstorm a special dinner, usually a nice bottle of wine. Caymus and Silver Oak are my favorite when I’m feeling fancy (and not pregnant).

In year’s past we’ve done a heart shaped pizza.

I’ve done some creative pasta.

And this year, I opted for some homemade lasagna! And, if I’m keeping it real, it was some frozen lasagna of mine that I pulled out of the freezer for a super quick (but still delicious) Vday dinner. I paired it with some garlic bread. It was delicious!

Aaron brought home some beautiful flowers for me. I mean – they are really something. I’m going to stick them on the credenza in my home office to enjoy!

We exchanged our cards.

And we went out for Jenni’s Ice Cream.

I got the Brambleberry Crisp and the Gooey Butter Cake. It was delicious. Have I mentioned I’ve been craving sweets this whole pregnancy? Our day was low key, but perfect for the two of us.

One Sweet Reason why Valentine’s Day is special to us

Valentine’s Day will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s a day to celebrate friendships and the people you love – who show up for you all year – and hopefully not just one day. But, nearly seven years ago, it’s the weekend we flew our photographer out to take our engagement photos. These photos turned out better than I ever could have imagined, and I’ll cherish them forever. I still have some hanging up in our house – and it’s a photo book we pull out frequently.

We opted to include Sawyer and Buttercup in our photos because they were members of our family. I’m so glad we have these photo memories of them!

Remembering Valentine’s Day 2021

And, if you remember, Valentine’s Day 2021 was the year of Texas freeze. It was also the day before our pipes burst in our new house prompting a complete repipe and a pretty extensive renovation.

So, we’ve done a lot of living on Valentine’s Days in years past, and I hope to create some equally memorable moments in years to come. If you are single, I hope you got out for a Galentine’s dinner or lunch, or maybe you treated yourself to some quality “you” time in the form of a walk outside, a mani or a pedi or set some time aside to call a friend or loved one!

Happy Wednesday, friends.
