Friday Favorites + Halloween Edition

texans

Happy Friday (afternoon)! I realize I’m a bit late posting today, but my day has started off kind of fast and furious. There was a rush project at work that was behind deadline, and it needed my attention first thing this morning. This is one of those projects that has kind of been an ongoing thorn in my side all year long – and it just hasn’t gotten any smoother. We’ve come up with some strategies lately that might help work out some of the kinks, so I’m hopeful. As is life. It won’t be like this forever!

Starbucks holiday cups

As I found myself at my computer bright and early this Friday morning- I’ve come to the realization that I cannot worry about things that are completely out of my control. As long as I know that I’ve done my personal best – I can walk away satisfied. Ya’ll – my Fridays are kind of sacred to me. I try my best to clear my meeting schedule so I can have uninterrupted time to just work. So, while today started off on a bit of a rocky path, I kind of feel like I’ve righted the ship, and I’m well on my way to a better day! I popped out to grab a quick coffee (yep, you can still drink coffee while pregnant – but consult your doc, do your research, don’t overdo it, make the decision that’s best for you, etc….), and I walked away with a holiday cup!!!!!!!

Why don’t I get into some of my favorite parts about this week?

Halloween

Golden retriever

We got a TON of trick-or-treaters on Monday. The Astros game was postponed due to rain, which meant that parents and their kiddos were out in full force well into the evening. We got a couple hundred, and I was happy to unload my candy haul.

A new recipe

butternut squash soup recipe

Did you all catch my new crockpot butternut squash soup recipe? Some of you are reading from parts of the U.S. that are already pretty cold. Try out this recipe and let me know how it goes. It makes a ton – so you can probably get one meal – and one freezer meal out of this one. I shared with my bestie, and she made it also. We were laughing that your dipping vessel of choice (crackers, biscuit…) is extremely important. I didn’t have time to make or grab any crackers or biscuits, but I might try to make a pumpkin biscuit the next time.

Tennis lesson

Jeni's Ice Creams opening another location at Park Road Shopping Center - Axios Charlotte

So….. I had a tennis lesson scheduled for Wednesday evening. My instructor and my friend were texting me while I was driving there. Turns out – all of our usual courts were full (we can normally find at least one). Instead of tennis, my friend and I decided to go grab some ice cream from Jenni’s. And while I was a bit disappointed about missing tennis and moving my body, it was good for the soul to catch up with my friend for about two hours of unplanned and uninterrupted time! The bramble berry crunch in a cone is my fave!

Sports!

I do love to watch a good NFL game in person. If you’ve never been to one – put it on your bucket list. There is just something about being there with the crowd. While Aaron and I are big Dallas Cowboys fans (don’t @ me), we also enjoy supporting our home teams when we can. So, a friend who works at the Houston Texans offered us tickets to Thursday night’s home game against the Philadelphia Eagles, and Aaron and I definitely made it a point to go. It was a 7:15 game, but we want to take advantage of spontaneous outings like this before baby arrives. The Texans lost, but we stayed until the end!

Here’s my game day outfit!

Running

peloton

I finally feel like I’ve gotten a bit more used to my new running stride. I’ve been a bit humbled by taking it easier than I normally would during my runs. I spend a bit more time warming up, and I’m letting my body move as fast as it tells me its comfortable with. That said, I’ve gotten some more energy now that I”m in my second trimester, and I feel really great running. I knocked out four miles the other night on the Peloton, which was great since it rained all day. I’m thankful for running and plan to keep it up as long as I can. More on that in a few!

planks giving

And finally, I’m doing the Planksgiving Challenge this November. Will you join me?

That’s all I’ve got for today, friends. Aaron and I have quite the weekend ahead of us. My team is walking about the Boot Walk bright and early Saturday morning, and we’ve got a gala we are attending tonight! Needless to say, I hope to be spending most of my time on the couch for the majority of the day on Sunday!
