Friday Favorites + It’s the little things edition

ootd

Happy Friday, friends! We made it to the end our week. I’m starting my day off with a Starbucks. It’s an oat milk cappuccino kind of morning.

Houston’s first official cold front arrives next week, and I’m kind of looking forward to it. I don’t love the cold weather, but 90 degree weather in October just feels wrong. So, I’m looking forward to being in the 50s-70s next week. Should be perfect. I got my fall decorations up just in time. If you haven’t seen my fall house tour, head on over to my post.

Spud Snuggles

Last Friday, my puppies got spayed and neutered. The weekend was kind of rough for them, but they are back to themselves as of the last couple of days. They still have a bit of healing to do, but they are back to running and jumping around. But, there were couple of days in there where they were both in desperate need of snugs – and I didn’t complain.

Golden retrievers are just the best. I am so thankful for the amount of healing these two have brought me over the year and half after losing my first golden, Sawyer. They are wonderful little co-workers, and a joy to have in our lives. I thought it would be difficult to love a dog as much as I loved Sawyer and Buttercup. But, Tex and Cali are so different – and exactly what Aaron and I needed when we were grieving. They didn’t replace Sawyer or Buttercup, but they sure allowed us to expand our hearts to love them just as much!

OOTD

I’d be lying if I said I looked glam and professional every day. Let’s be honest. Zoom can only see the top half, so most days, you’ll find me in yoga pants – and a cute top. And, once I’m done with meetings for the day, I’ll change into a workout top. We keep it very casual around here, and I’m not quite sure how I ever dressed to the 9’s every day just to sit in my office and work in dress pants. But, I’ve been interviewing candidates this week, so my outfit’s of the day have looked a bit different. For some reason, when I interview candidates, I try to take it as seriously as I can – and that includes getting myself fully ready for the gig. I know these candidates will come to the Zoom interview dressed professionally, and I feel like I owe them the same courtesy.

A deep clean

clean house

We got our house deep cleaned this week, and it was worth every penny. I can do a decent clean, but I know that a deep clean means that every speck of dust will be gone – and all those things we forget to clean (like my top shelves that are hard for me to reach – and I don’t think anyone ever inspects them) will be clean. It’s like a fresh start for my house. We try to do a deep clean a couple of times a year – and supplement with regular cleanings. I spot clean the best I can – and I vacuum very regularly thanks to our Goldens – but I don’t have the time to do a full on deep clean of my house. It’s a guilty little pleasure that is one of our marriage savers. Highly recommend.

We’ve got guests coming this weekend, and I knew that mine and Aaron’s week would be incredibly busy – so we treated ourselves. The crew came all day Tuesday – and even though it’s hard to feel like I’m in someone’s way with the whole work from home thing – I wasn’t complaining when I saw the final result.

Early mornings

sunrise

We’ve had ourselves some pretty early mornings this week thanks to some meetings and well, work. If you’ve been reading here for any amount of time, you know that I’m much more of a night person. While I love the idea of being a morning person – I’m just not. My husband…. well, he’s one of those 5 a.m. folks, and I love that for him. Against my will, I had too many early mornings to count this week, but I treated myself to an early morning sunrise while I let the dogs out. And, while the sunrise was gorgeous – I would still prefer to sleep in. I am who I am!

I tried a new Instant Pot recipe this week, and it was a hit. I’ll share the full details next week!

Running + Yoga

peloton

And finally, when I have really busy weeks, exercise can be the best way for me to unplug. It’s been a great tool to allow me to separate myself from work, decompress from that email inbox and transition into my home life. The Peloton has truly been such a great addition to our home gym over this last year. I turned to it several times this week to decompress – and I also did some yoga. Movement is one of the best ways to clear my head during these busy weeks.

These were just a few of my favorite things this week. I’m looking forward to knocking out these interviews this morning, wrapping up one last project before the weekend – and enjoying time with our friends who are coming in from out of town. We’ve got some fun things planned. You all have a wonderful weekend.
