Friday Favorites Nutcracker Market Edition

Veterans Day | marine corps

Happy Friday, friends! We changed up our weekend plans a bit in the effort to slow down and embrace some of the items that we need to tackle on our to-do list. We were supposed to be headed to Waco for the Baylor game this weekend, but the more we looked at our schedules – and the more we thought about it, we decided that we would benefit the most from staying in Houston this weekend. And, I’m actually relieved. You all know that I love to get out of town, but we’ve been out of town a lot – so I’m completely fine with staying local this weekend.

Nutcracker Market

But, one thing that hasn’t been removed from my schedule this weekend is the Nutcracker Market!!!! In fact, I’m headed there as soon as I wrap up my post. We always try to go on Friday, because Saturday gets really crazy. So, this has been a years-long tradition (and it’s one of my favorite ways to kick off the holiday season). Here’s my Nutcracker Market recap from last year.

nutcracker market mimosa

Now, one of my most favorite things is to enjoy a mimosa while I shop. So, I’ll be sipping on my water today, but I’ll be dreaming of a mimosa! I always use the Nutcracker Market as a way to kickoff my holiday shopping. I have made zero progress when it comes to gifts this year, so I’m expecting to pick up some items for my godchildren, my husband, and I want some holiday decor for my front yard. I’ve had my eye on the Holi Balls. I’ll report back on my favorite finds!

Baby Update

Did you catch my first trimester update? That was a favorite to recap this week. I’m excited to share this next chapter of my life on this little corner of the internet. I had a doctor appointment yesterday, and while I don’t love being poked and prodded, we did get to hear baby’s heartbeat!

Peloton Appreciation

peloton

I hit my 52-week streak on the Peloton this week! That means that I’ve been on my tread at least one time every week over the course of the last year. And you know what? I’m going to take that as a huge win. It gotten me through marathon training earlier this year – and it’s really come in clutch for those days during the first trimester when I really didn’t feel like working out (even though I knew that movement would ultimately make me feel better). I’m going to continue moving my body in the ways the feel the most comfortable to me (running, yoga and lifting some weights) as long as it feels good!

Fruit

What a strange item to add to your Friday Favorites, Kira! Why yes – fruit has been the real MVP in my world. An apple with some slices of cheddar or some almond butter? Yes please. Some fresh pineapple? All day long. Kiwis and pomegranate seeds in my morning yogurt? Absolutely. I can’t get enough! While kiwis aren’t typically in my rotation, I added them in this week, and they will be here to stay for awhile. The combination of kiwi with pomegranate is really delicious – and packed with antioxidants.

Coconut Water

I’d us to also have a moment for coconut water. Not just any coconut water, but specially the Harmless Harvest coconut water. I’m not a stranger to using coconut water to replace electrolytes during long runs, but I’ve never really been a big fan of the taste. A friend of mine recommended this brand to me – and boy oh boy is it delicious. This brand has a pink color to it, which is what happens in naturally-occurring coconut water when left alone. It’s got this refreshing, nutty taste to it, and it’s been a great addition to all the water I’ve been drinking.

A new recipe

white chicken chili

I tried a new recipe this week in the anticipation of Houston’s cold front arriving this weekend. It was so good. Here’s a sneak peek, and I’ll share the full recipe next week.

Veteran’s Day

Veterans Day | marine corps

And last, but certainly not least….. Happy Veteran’s Day to all the veterans out there. If you are new around here, I’m married to a Marine Corps veteran – and my father-in-law is a Vietnam Vet. In a world as divided as ours is these days, I think one thing we can all agree on is that our country was built on the bravery of men and women who dedicated parts of their lives to fight for this country that we have the privilege of calling home.

On that note, you all have a wonderful weekend!
