Weekend Digest – Back in the Swing of Things

el tiempo

Happy Monday! I’m back in Houston and writing from my home office. I got some much-needed rest this weekend – and snuck some fun in too. I headed out of Houston toward the end of last week for work in Dallas. The weather threw a bit of a wrench in travel plans, but me and several other teammates were able to make it into Dallas Thursday evening. We worked until about 11, and were up bright and early for a long day on Friday. It was incredibly neat to see a project through to fruition. I’ll share more about it on Wednesday. But for now, I’m glad to be back home – and I have miles of emails to catch up on.

Erin Condren

I can’t believe that today is the last day of February. Did the month fly by for anyone else – or is it just me? I’m kind of nervous looking ahead to March because there’s a lot that needs to be accomplished in just a few short weeks. In fact, I just planned it out in my Erin Condren planner this morning. It’s the kind of month that has my stomach in a bit of a knot, but I’m going to try to just knock small items off my to do list each and every day. We will get there! Oh, and we will throw some fun in there too, don’t you worry.

We can’t start off the week without acknowledging the Russian and Ukraine situation. It’s sad all around, and I think the last thing that people want is war and destruction. I’m not going to pretend to know the intricacies of this situation, but I do know that there are some brave men and women who are leaving their families behind and fighting for their country. I’ve thought about them a lot this weekend, and I’ve had them in my prayers. If you are interested in donating, I encourage you to find a church who provides international aide. My church has already given some money to Ukraine, and I encourage you to inquire with leadership at your church. Another organization is United Help Ukraine. This organization was formed after the Crimea conflict in 2014, and it’s raising money to send first aid kits and other humanitarian aide to Ukraine.

Thursday/Friday

Wednesday evening, I had a birthday dinner for one of my besties. We headed to El Tiempo for a birthday dinner and some margs.

Thursday and Friday were all work! I flew in late Friday evening from Dallas to Houston. My flight coming back had a bit of a delay, and I was exhausted by the time I made it back in around 8. Aaron came to pick me up, which was so nice of him. It was either that, or I was going to Uber, and I much preferred having my husband pick me up. I unpacked and crashed pretty early.

We woke up early and took the Spuds to the vet to get weighed. Tex weighs 60 pounds, and even the staff members were surprised. He’s grown kind of a lot over the last couple of months. Cali surprised me – and she actually weighs 54 pounds. I always think she’s so tiny, but she’s grown a lot also.

They weren’t their best-behaved selves at the vet, I’ll just say. We’ve got some puppy school in the near future.

After that, I came home, did some cleaning and ran to the grocery store. We invited our neighbors over for dinner on Saturday night. I was hoping we could grill outside, but the rainy weather had other plans. I decided at the last minute to make a lasagna, garlic bread, Cesar salad and some dessert.

peloton

But, before our guests headed over, and I had time to sneak in a quick 30-minute endurance run on the Peloton. It was nice to get a quick workout in. Our neighbors stayed over until around 11, and Aaron and I were in bed shortly after that. It’s been a long time since I’ve traveled for work (December of 2019 right before the pandemic, and I forgot how tired it can make me).

Sunday

We watched church from home yesterday morning. There is something going on with our Nest, and I needed to file a claim with our home warranty company, among some other items that needed to get finished. It was fine because I got to snug a pup!

I also got to enjoy a leisurely cup of coffee before a crazy week begins.

And finally, Aaron and I met Alice for lunch at Kenny and Ziggy’s. It’s a fabulous diner if you are ever in Houston. They serve breakfast all day, and they have the most delicious sandwiches, salads (and even desserts). I went casual 🙂

And, they serve some of the best pickles in Htown. I got the chicken salad sandwich on rye, with some coleslaw as my side. Delish!

After that, Aaron and I walked the dogs, and I got a few other things done around the house. But, most importantly, I ended my Sunday evening by taking some time to put away the technology and read. As I mentioned before, I’ve got a busy four weeks ahead of me, and I’m trying to just take things one step at a time, relax when I can, and quiet my mind to the best of my abilities!

Thanks for reading along – I’ll be back on Wednesday!
