A day in the life of working from home

peloton

Happy Friday, friends. I’ve got the day off from work, and I’m kicking the long weekend off as soon as I write this post. I’m going to get a quick workout in, and then I’m meeting up with a friend for lunch. Aaron and I have a few plans on the books this weekend, but we really just kind of want to take it easy. We are normally out of town for Memorial Day weekend, and it will be nice to spend the long weekend at home. But, if you want a fun weekend trip in Texas, you can read about our Memorial Day weekend trip last year here (super fun in case you are looking to get out of town). I thought it would be fun to do a “day in the life” post today. I documented my Tuesday working from home, and I figured I’d share.

Day in the life

coffee

I started my day around 7:30 a.m. with a cup of coffee (of course). My husband is an early riser – he starts answering emails around 5:30/6 a.m. and lets me sleep in. So his day was already well under way.

breakfast

I made myself a greek yogurt bowl. I’ve been loving Stonyfield’s organic whole milk yogurt with blackberries, strawberries and raspberries mixed with Autumn Gold granola. I took my granola to my desk to start answering emails. I like to go through all of the emails that come in the night before so I can prioritize items that need to be addressed immediately versus those that can wait a bit. This day, I also have a standing morning meeting every week, so I wanted to go through the bulk of my emails before they started piling up again.

chia seed pudding

After that, I made a quick batch of my chia seed pudding so I would have breakfast ready for the rest of the week.

pool

Next, I paid our pool guy who came earlier that morning.

golden retrievers

I loved on my spuds a little. Aaron took them on a quick walk earlier in the morning. They’ve got tons of energy first thing, and we were expecting some rain this week. So, I’m glad Aaron got them out so they could get some exercise in.

pool

I went to go check the pool to make sure the pool guy was able to get all of the branches. We had lots of branches drop from our tree trimming over the weekend. All good!

ormedic

Then, I got ready for the day. I didn’t have to be on camera for my meeting, but I start every work from home day by washing my face and brushing my teeth. And those of you who work from home can relate. There were a couple of days early on in the pandemic where I really let myself go 🙂 I would find myself working in my bathrobe at 11 a.m. Now that this is what my actual work days look like, I always feel better and more prepared for my days when I start each day off with a face wash and teeth brush. No makeup for me this morning!

work from home

Got ready in some workout clothes so I would be prepared for my walk during lunch.

work from home

Attended my first meeting of the day and got to work on some projects. I worked for the next four hours and stopped around 12:30 to get up and move my legs.

work from home

Did some laps around the neighborhood and listened to a podcast (I’ve been loving Trading Secrets) for about half an hour.

salad

Made a quick lunch of leftovers I had stashed in my fridge. This was a kale salad topped off with some chicken salad and…..

watermelon

Watermelon with Tajin (if you know, you know). I took my lunch back to my desk and at it while I got back to work. After I ate, I threw on some makeup and a Zoom outfit for some meetings in the afternoon that required me to be on camera.

work from home

I made an afternoon cup of matcha (the best if you don’t want a ton of caffeine). This one had organic matcha, some oat milk that I frothed with some cinnamon.

matcha

Seriously – if you want a bit of an afternoon pick me up without a ton of caffeine, matcha is the way to go.

golden retriever

I had a Spud work right next to me for the rest of the afternoon.

peloton

I shut things down around 6ish that day, and I did my evening routine: feed dogs, let them play in the backyard for a bit and hop on my peloton. I did a 30 minute run-on the treadmill, and it felt great to workout after a long day working.

golden retriever

Aaron got him, and we walked the Spuds. This is our time to disconnect and catch up on each other’s days. Lately, we’ve both been pretty busy with work – and a walk without technology is a great way to end the work day.

kitchen

We got to work on dinner (and yes, if you are keeping up with the time, we do eat kind of late around here). I made some sun-dried tomato chicken. We ate, cleaned up, and I went to go grab the mail.

summer sandals

I ordered these about a week ago for some fun summer slides, and they finally arrived. I loved them. They will be cute with some shorts for summer! I bought them from this site, but I can’t find them anymore. These are similar. After that, it was time to shower and finally sit down to relax. We watch an episode (or two) or Ozark and called it a night around 11ish!

Hope you enjoyed a sneak peek of a day in my life of working from home! And now, I’m off to kick off this long, Memorial Day weekend. Hope you have a great one.
