Friday Favorites: Short Week Edition

golden retrievers

Happy Friday, friends! This was one of those weeks where I didn’t really ever find my footing. I couldn’t ever get the day of the week right, and I spent lots of time trying to knock out a project that had a deadline today. But, you know what? Every week isn’t going to go perfectly, and it’s nice to know that next week will probably be much more smooth.

See ya laters

Maria's going away

I said goodbye to my director this week – she’s leaving to start her retirement off early – and I am feeling all sorts of feelings about that. Let me be clear, it’s certainly not a Friday favorite that my director is leaving, but I’m so happy that she’s starting off this new chapter of her life. She and her husband didn’t want to wait until they are too old to travel and enjoy the things in life that they’ve spent all this time working for. They want to get out there and do it while they still can. And you know what? That’s a great lesson for her to leave us with. Let us not get so caught up in working that we forget what we are working so hard for. That’s something that I’ve been reflecting on a lot this week. For those of you finding yourself at so many of the “endings” that June can bring (kids transitioning from middle school to high school, high school graduations, college graduations), just know that the next chapter might seem daunting and uncertain and scary, but also know that it will hold so much goodness and growth and promise!

Maria's going away

My whole team met for a going away lunch, and it was such a great send off. I miss seeing these people in person each and every day, so I always love the opportunity to see them in person. So, while this was my director’s last day, It’s not goodbye – it’s a see ya later!

Birthdays

Two of my favorite people have birthdays in June: my husband – and our friend, Blair. Blair Bear is our lender – and a very close family friend. He celebrated his birthday this week. Blair and his girlfriend just came back from a fabulous vacation in Roatan, so I was living vicariously through his stories. (Take the vacation, friends). Aaron and I have a longer vacation planned for July, and I cannot wait. We celebrated at Marmo in Houston. It had pastas and steaks, and I had three favorite parts of the meal: the bread comes with fresh chunks of parmesan cheese (ummm…. it doesn’t really get better than that), roasted garlic comes with your steak (and, I you are a garlic love like me – yes ma’am), and the boar gnocchi (thank me later).

Summer favorites

I hope you caught my post earlier this week about some of my favorite summer dishes. I’ve had my matcha smoothie on repeat this week!

Spuds

Is it even a Friday Favorites edition if I don’t mention the Spuds? I think not. These two finally got signed up for puppy school, and we start at the end of June. I’m looking forward to going through the training as a family. In the meantime, the dogs I said would never be allowed on the bed…. continue to break the rules and get up on the bed. But look at how happy these cuties are! Everyone needs a golden retriever in their life – I mean – no bad days when you’ve got a smiling spud around.

Workouts

peloton

A not so favorite of mine is that our garage air conditioner needs to be replaced. The good news? I was able to get a new one at a decent price, with a five-year warranty. It arrived yesterday, and Aaron needs to just install in (hopefully) this weekend. Our garage is a bit insulated (the previous owners added insulation to the garage door), and the AC is such a great addition to the space – it actually makes it usable. I will probably forever own a garage AC in any future houses that we own. Our current AC is limping along enough to cool the garage down a bit – so I’ve been enduring some hot Peloton workouts this week. But, I always feel better after a workout!

Let them eat cake

The lunch spot I went to with my Team has been a work favorite for years and years. The food is delicious, but the best part is dessert. They have the most delicious chocolate mousse cake, and you can bet that I’ll be taking a slice to go with me whenever I eat there. I happily took a slice of this cake to go yesterday, and Aaron and I enjoyed it tonight. Houstonians, it’s the Big “O” Cake from Dessert Gallery. I might get a whole one for Aaron’s birthday!

Happy Friday, friends. Have a fab weekend.
