Friday Favorites: Surviving – not Thriving Edition

Happy Friday, friends. I, for one, am thrilled that we’ve made it to the end of the week. In the spirit of being real, I’m kind of limping my way across the finish line today, which I’ll share a bit more about. Life is all about the ebb and the flow, which I feel like Aaron and I have experienced a lot of in 2021. It’s good so much of the time, but there are always going to be those instances where things don’t always go as planned. How you react in those situations can make all the difference in the world.

Work

virtual meeting

This week has been busy. It’s been busy with life and with work. Aaron and I have tried to stay up watching a show probably every day – and one of us always falls asleep about twenty minutes into it. I’m in performance evaluation season at work, so you can feel me there too. I’m also trying to wrap up some goal project for this fiscal year – and some other projects that all kind of accumulated with a deadlines at the same time. I”ve been starting early – and stopping late and until next week. But, I’ve got an entire glorious week of time off in August, and I’m counting down the days.

taco night

And, because my work schedule has been kind of hectic, my grand plans for cooking even some simple, healthy dinner kind of fell through the cracks this week, so take out it was. Which, I’m certainly not complaining about. Although, I was able to make my tacos for taco Tuesday 🙂

I was able to get some workouts in, which can be a saving grace during busy weeks. I’m a huge advocate of getting up and out of the chair when possible, and I’ve really tried to make that a priority this week.

And, I caught up with one of my best friends over the phone. It’s been too long, and a phone date was so much needed. I was also able to grab lunch with one of my girlfriends who was in town, and I’m glad that I got away and made that happen – even if it meant I was in front of my computer for a bit longer in the evening.

Puppy Update

Now, Wednesday is when the wheels sort of fell off. Tex started coughing on Wednesday evening, and I stayed up with him pretty much throughout the night to make sure he was okay. A call to the vet told us it was kennel cough – and to monitor. We aren’t sure how he got it because he hasn’t been exposed to any other animals – but the vet said it could even have been some bacteria living on a piece of grass he ate in the yard. We were also told it was only a matter of time until Cali got it too.

Well, friends. Cali started coughing last night – so we’ve got two coughing puppies. They are still eating and drinking – and not lethargic. They just have that cough. If they aren’t better by this afternoon, the vet wants us to come in to treat it with antibiotics.

Buttercup

Buttercup

Buttercup just hasn’t ever been herself since Sawyer passed away. She’s perked up a bit with the puppies, but something has been off. She’s always been kind of a picky eater, but a couple of weeks ago, she went on a complete hunger strike. So, we took her to the vet (we are keeping them in business this month!!!!), and they told us it could possibly be cancer – or it could be arthritis.

They put her on some pain meds to see if they would perk her up, which they did. And she’s been eating and acting semi-normal for about a week. Well, this week, she went on that hunger strike again and just has been acting pretty strange. She’s been lying around in strange places – and just really lethargic. So, Aaron’s at the vet with her this morning. I’m a realist here, and I realize that we could possibly be saying goodbye to our girl pretty soon. So, please keep us in your prayers. We’ve always tried to make the best, educated decisions for our pets, and I need to learn a little bit more about what’s going on before I can make any sort of decision.

I hope to learn a little bit more this weekend – and after the vet visit today. We have some plans on the books this weekend, but we might just cancel those so we can monitor our sick pups!!!!!

I wish you all the best weekend, and when you see me back here on Monday, I hope to have some news!
