Friday Things + Weekend Plans+ Advent Study

Athleta Tights

What a week it has been, and I’m so glad it’s Friday. Even though I shared some tips on Monday about getting back into the swing of things after a holiday week(end), I am struggling to catch up and stay on task. Surely next week will be a bit easier because I’ve got a lot of projects to wrap up before the end of the year.

This weekend, Aaron and I have plans in place to finish decorating the outside of our house with some Christmas lights, I need to finish up some Christmas shopping and get some wrapping done for gifts I’m sending. We also have dinner plans with a friend for Saturday evening. Pretty solid weekend.

virtual meeting

As for today, I’ve got several Zoom meetings on the books (what’s new?), and I’m trying to wrap up two articles I’m in the process of writing. My Ring system is also supposed to be delivered today, and I’m super excited about that (adulting, anyone?).

Reading The Giver Of Stars is high on my list this weekend.

This week I’ve done some cold weather running (it got down into the low 40s one day here in Houston).

Fireplace

We’ve been spending a lot of time in front of the fireplace (dogs included).

Office

I’ve been hosting some festive meetings over Zoom with my decorated office space.

I made my Zucchini Boats for dinner one night this week.

Advent Study

Preparing Our Hearts for Advent

In all the craziness of this year, combined with the rush of the holiday season, it can be difficult to focus on the entire reason we celebrate. I’ve been doing this advent study from my alma mater, Baylor University. You can watch this video about the advent season, but it symbolizes a time of waiting as we prepare our hearts for Christ.

Baylor has separated the advent study out by weeks:

  • Week 1: Hope
  • Week 2: Faith
  • Week 3: Joy
  • Week 4: Peace
  • Week 5: Christ

There is a new verse every day that centers around the theme of that week. I am on the second to the last day of this week, which is Hope. Today’s verse is 2 Timothy 4:6-8.

2 Timothy 4:6-8

6 As for me, I am already being poured out as a libation, and the time of my departure has come. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 From now on there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

You can read more about the meaning of this verse here.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend – whether you need it to be restful or filled with allll the holiday things.
