Monday Things +Weekend Wrap-Up+COVID Vaccine

Weekend walk

Happy Monday, Friends. I hope you had a fabulous weekend, and I’m here this morning for a quick weekend wrap-up. But first: Advent.

Preparing Our Hearts for Advent

If you read my post on Friday, I talked a little bit about the Advent study that I’m doing this year. This week, the theme is Faith. If you have questions about my Advent study, or the reason for the season, I encourage you to follow along with me.

COVID-19 Vaccine

Before I jump right into my weekend, I want to talk COVID vaccine. I learned this week that if the emergency authorization for the vaccine goes through on the 10th, that we will begin vaccinating Dec. 16. Now, I’m not in the first phase to receive the vaccine because I don’t deal directly with patients in my line of work. However, I am in one of the later phases and will need to make a decision sooner rather than later. I can’t say enough great things about how my work has provided proper education to enable individuals to make the best decision, but it’s still a big choice. What will you be doing as the vaccines begin to roll out?

Friday

I had a fantastic Friday, but the highlight of my day was a quick Zoom catch-up with Dr. Chaoul. He first hired me almost 8 years ago. I work in a different department now, and he’s since founded the Mind, Body, Spirit Institute here in Houston, but I love to catch up with him.

After I wrapped up work on Friday, Aaron and I met up with a friend for dinner. We went to Capital Grille, which used to be a staple of mine when I lived in Austin because it was right across the street from my office. I had their lobster bisque and the seared tuna.

Saturday

Aaron and I skipped our bike ride on Saturday morning because it was too cold. I opted for an indoor workout instead, and I was able to save some time that way too. My to-do list for Saturday was l-o-n-g. After my workout, I had to swing by the bank and do my grocery shopping. I had such a long list this time, because I’m getting ready for my holiday baking. I make holiday cookie trays every year for work, friends and neighbors. It’s a tradition that my mom has been doing for years, and one that is a true labor of love.

Weight Rack | Garage Gym

While I was gone, Aaron was installing our new weight rack. I’m so excited. I haven’t been back to my gym since March because: COVID (you can read about what I have been doing for exercise here). So, I’m certainly happy to have some weights to lift. I’ve said it before, but incorporating some consistent weight lifting into my routine was a game changer when it came to running. I would not have been able to finish my marathon without adding some strength training as part of my marathon training.

The garage gym is mostly complete, Aaron is going to buy a few more weights as soon as he can find some. They are a hot commodity, friends.

We met a friend for dinner at one of my favorite restaurants: Pico’s. I hadn’t been inside this restaurant since February – we’ve just done pick up a couple of times. They have really made it safe for those who dine in. There are plexi-glass dividers all throughout the restaurant and in between tables. The tables are incredibly spaced out. Limited dining, etc…

Sunday

Yesterday, we started by watching church online. Then, I started to install our new Ring system. I got through the first couple of steps and realized that I’m probably not the most qualified to be installing an ALARM SYSTEM in our home. Needless to say, I have a professional coming out this afternoon to finish the rest. 🙂 I know my strengths.

Weekend walk

After that, I went on a walk and called my mother-in-law so we could talk Christmas plans. It’s our year to do Christmas with Aaron’s side of the family. While I was out walking, I SAW A SNAKE DANGER NOODLE! I thought it was too cold out for noods, so this one caught me by surprise. I’m happy to report that I didn’t die, but I did scream and turn around the other way. I’ve lived in Texas for almost 17 years, and I will never ever get used to seeing a snake. I’m terrified.

Christmas plans are coming together, but they will look a bit different this year, which is fine. We finished off the evening by working on getting Christmas lights on the outside of our house. Stay tuned for the final product.

But, I did pick up these bad boys, and I love them.

I made a lasagna for dinner because who doesn’t love carbs on a cold evening after untangling gobs of Christmas lights. 🙂

That’s it for my weekend wrap-up. I hope you all have a wonderful week. I’ll be back here tomorrow to share my decorated house!
