Happy Election Day! Before I start off today’s post, I just want to remind everyone that you still have a chance to vote. Aaron and I voted several weeks ago, but this election is more important than ever.
I don’t want this to be a negative space, but I do want it to be an informed space. My friend, Brent, waited until this morning to vote. He said the line was long, but that it moved quickly. He got his vote in – and you can too. So, no matter what happens tonight (even though I doubt we will have a decided election tonight) or in the days to come, God Bless America! *steps off soapbox*
Anniversary Weekend Getaway
Aaron and I celebrated our four-year anniversary at the beginning of August. We had big big plans scheduled for this anniversary. In fact, we were supposed to be taking a trip to Thailand. As I’ve mentioned before, Aaron owns his own business, which hasn’t always been easy. It means long hours, weekends and a whole lot of responsibility and time away from the family. This year, we finally felt like we were in a nice groove to be able to get away. I went to Japan last year with my cousin and one of my best friends (a Japan post is coming soon – I promise).
Aaron didn’t come along because we just didn’t feel like he could be away from the business for so long – and with such a major time difference (15 hours). We’ve been to Hawaii several times, and that time difference is 6 hours, which means that Aaron can still do some work while we are there. So, we turned Japan into a girl’s trip – and Aaron and I decided that we would do Thailand for our anniversary this year.
Then, COVID hit. Travel plans were cancelled – you know the story. If we’ve learned anything from four years of marriage – it’s that flexibility and adaptability are key components to success. So, we called the Thailand trip off before it was fully planned.
Rockport, Texas
Instead, we decided to keep it local. We are big beach and water people, so we decided to go to Rockport, Texas. In the 16 years I’ve lived in Texas, I had never been. It’s supposed to have one of the nicest beaches in the state. So, I began researching some airbnb options because we also wanted to bring the dogs with us. I found a place within walking distance to the water that had plenty of space and was dog friendly. It also came equipped with a full kitchen and had two bedrooms and two full bathrooms. That way, we could bring some food to cook to minimize any eating out we needed to do.
So, we packed up the dogs and made the 3-ish hour drive from Houston to Rockport. It’s the cutest little beach town and the causeway that you drive over to get into town has views with miles and miles of gorgeous blue water.
The first night we walked down to pick up some dinner from a restaurant located in Fulton Harbor. We had a nice sunset view on the way back.
The next day, we got up early to grab our spot at the beach. We packed up our cooler. You can’t beat the Yeti – we got this one as a gift for our wedding and have used it countless times for the pool, beach, etc… I grabbed my book (I read “The Light We Lost” on this trip, chairs and sunscreen and we set out for a day at the beach. The weather was gorgeous – not too hot, and we were able to snag a palapa away from other people! 10/10 would recommend hanging at the Rockport beach for a day!
I’ll be back for Part II of our trip to Rockport, Texas tomorrow!
