Hilton Head Part III

Hilton Head

Happy Monday, friends. Hope you had a wonderful weekend. It’s officially the point of summer in Houston where it feels like we are living in an armpit! So, it’s safe to say that we spent the greater part of of our weekend in the pool. I love love love warm weather, so I’m not really complaining about the heat, and the pool certainly makes it more bearable. I hope that your week ahead is filled with all the things that makes you happy, and I’m hopeful that this week will be better than the last one for me :). I’m here today with the third and final part of our trip to Hilton Head. You can read part I here and part II here.

Biking Hilton Head

Because we were traveling with our friends and three kids for this trip, we knew we needed to be flexible when possible. Aaron and I are very easy going people, and Sara and I spent quite a bit of time chatting about activities that were a must do, some that were a try-to-do if possible and some that we could do with Layla (since she’s older) while the little kiddos napped.

Kayaking was one of those activities that Aaron and I knew we would probably do with Brent, and it was just a cherry on the top that Layla wanted to come along with us! But, one activity that we knew that everyone wanted to participate in was bike riding. Hilton Head is known for golfing – and for all of its fabulous biking trails. Its biking trails and paths make it an exceptionally bike-friendly little town.

What we didn’t know, is that you really needed to make a reservation for your bike. Many of the companies will rent them to you for a week and drop them off at your hotel so you can use them at your leisure. We went in thinking that we would be able to rent bikes for a couple of hours, which wasn’t the case. However, our hotel (yet another reason why we love staying here) had its own bikes that you could rent (you could also use your resort credit for this), and you could just bike right out on the beach. The beaches are also incredibly bike-able due to the packed sand. So, we rented bikes – and off we went on the beach. I took the baby in a carrier, Aaron took Layla in a child seat, and Brent took Brayden. Sara rode solo. 🙂

We spent about two hours on the bikes before retiring them, and we had the best time biking the beaches of Hilton Head. It’s a must-do if you ever head that way.

Family Time

Aaron, Brent and I left the resort for a nice dinner one evening. We always try to get away for one really nice dinner when we travel together, and this time it was a Red Fish. It rained the afternoon prior to dinner, so we opted to dine inside, but the food and the ambience were great. There was a singer who did some nice country covers, and I would dine there again.

And, another evening, Sara and were able to sneak away after she put the kids to bed for a couple of drinks at the bar. She and I really just “get each other.” When you find friends in life you get you and understand you – you don’t let them go. I cherish my time the entire family – and especially Sara. She and I grabbed a Moscow mule or two – and settled down at the bar for some girl time and some Grade A people watching. It was one of my favorite moments of the trip.

And earlier that evening, we did a family dinner at Skull Creek Boat House, a cute restaurant on the water. They had great seafood and BBQ. Pro-tip go earlier, like around 4:30 to get in without a big wait. After we wrapped up, we explored the dock outside of the restaurant, and we saw a baby gator.

S’mores

Our hotel had fire pits set up around the resort for families to enjoy s’mores in the evening. They had kits available for purchase in the on-site store, so we opted to do s’mores one night. Here’s a photo from our room of one of the fire pits.

And here we were roasting our marshmallows!

Highly recommend roasting s’mores while you are on vacation!

Towel Animal Collection

One of my favorite things about the hotel was the towel animals they created for us every day. Each and every one of the staff was wonderful, and they made every part of the stay fun!

And a seal!

And, that’s a wrap on our vacation. Aaron and I were so glad to get away to reset, recharge and relax for a couple of days with some of best friends!
