Life Lately

investiture

Happy Monday, friends. I took a bit of a blogging hiatus last week because I had a ton of work deadlines – and a ton of things to get done here at home that needed my attention! I kicked off my third trimester last week, which has brought on a whole new level of tired. If you read here frequently, you know that I’ve been a night owl my whole life – I love staying up until midnight. These days, you can find me in bed around 10 p.m. I’m just listening to my body and slowing down when it calls for it. But, here’s a peak into what we’ve been up to lately!

Investiture

Awhile back, I hosted a fundraiser for my friend who was running for judge. Well, fast forward to last week, and she was officially sworn into office. To say that I’m incredibly proud of her is an understatement. She is one of my best friends – and one of my college roommates. Of course, we had to go to support her – it was standing room only – which speaks to the impact she made on people while she was on the campaign trail. I am so proud of her, and I can’t wait to see all that lies ahead for her.

Her fiancé actually got to help swear her in! It was a really touching ceremony!

Recent Eats

It got incredibly cold here in Houston last week. We were in the 30s most days with a lot of rain. Houston did better than our friends in the northern parts of Texas and the Texas Hill Country – they got hit with a bunch of ice and snow. My grandma, who lives a bit outside of Dallas, actually lost power for a bit. Luckily, she lives on my aunt and uncle’s property, so they were there to check up on her.

tortellini soup

Needless to say, I made a new cold-weather recipe last week, and it was a hit. It made a ton, so at least half of it made it into our freezer. I’ll share the recipe this week!

coffee

Hot coffee was on the agenda every morning last week (and every week). I have been making it extra fancy by frothing some oat milk with cinnamon!

sandwiches

And, I’ve been probably checking all the boxes off on pregnant lady faux-pas over here. But, I’ve been craving sandwiches (specifically turkey, Swiss, mayo and sweet/spicy pickles). My doctor said it was okay to have lunch meat – as long as I heated it up (which I do). So, while I’m not a pregnancy-nutrition effort, I would say to consult with your doc before incorporating caffeine and lunch meat into your diet.

Baby Updates

I feel really proud of myself because I checked several big items off my list last week. Our newborn photographer is officially booked. We ended up booking a one-year package so we could capture some key milestones over the course of Baby G’s first year. It’s something that I’m really looking forward to having on hand forever.

infant cpr

Aaron and I also started our newborn education. I really wanted to take an infant safety and cpr course because I feel largely unqualified. It was a two hour course last weekend, and well worth the time. I feel confident that I have at least a base understand of how to handle a choking or CPR situation. Here I am on the way to our class.

bumpdate

We still have at least two more classes that we want to take through the hospital including a taking care of infants course – and possibly a childbirth class (I keep going back and forth on this one). Luckily, they have some virtual options available.

Aaron and I have also started touring our infant-care options. Infant care/daycare is very competitive here in Houston – with lots of waitlists involved, and we really need a permanent solution that works for a family who has two parents who work full time. We found one that we really liked, so fingers crossed that a spot opens up between now and when I’m back from maternity leave.

Me time

facial

My monthly facials are my favorite form of me-time. I went to see my girl this Saturday, and it was 1.5 hours of pure relaxation. My melasma has started to actually fade during this pregnancy, and my girl is keeping my skin hydrated and maintained. I’m going every four weeks until I have the baby, and I really hope to start back up this summer.

Puppy snuggles

Cali’s favorite thing is to jump up in the bed with me as soon as my alarm goes off in the morning. She will rest her little head on my pillow – and stick her face right next to mine. It’s one of my favorite parts of my morning. Look how cute she is!

And that’s what life has looked like lately around here. I can’t believe we are already in February, and I can’t believe that my baby shower is almost here. There are also some really fun things happening at work this month (my new director starts this month – and we’ve got a really fun event going on in mid-February). I’ll be back on Wednesday, and I hope you all have a fabulous Monday!
