Friday Favorites – Memory Lane Edition

golden retriever

Happy Friday, friends – we made it! I had a chilly tennis lesson last night (and by chilly, I mean that it was in the 40s here in Houston – which is cold for us), and I’ve got a bit of a shorter day today. My friend was recently elected judge, so I’m headed to her investiture, which is her formal swearing in, this afternoon. For those of you asking, yep, I’m still playing tennis, but we took a brief hiatus because of the holidays. We are back at it, though. Here are some of my favorite things this week.

What I’m Reading

It Ends with Us Audiobook by Colleen Hoover - 9781508212690 | Rakuten Kobo United States

I ended up really liking Verity. Several friends warned me that it was a tad …. spicy. But, it didn’t disappoint. And the ending still has me wondering. In light of that, I decided to revisit Colleen Hoover’s “It Ends With Us,” because I want to read “It Starts With Us,” and it’s been awhile since I read the first. I’m trying to finish the first book this weekend so I can start the new one. Stay tuned.

Baby Progress

If you missed my 27-week pregnancy update on Wednesday, it’s worth a read if I do say so myself. My parents were generous enough to gift us our glider. Several of my friends have said they can take awhile to come in, so I wanted to make sure that we ordered one with enough time to get here. I placed my order last Monday, and to my surprise, it arrived this week.

Here’s my husband practicing! We went with the Babyletto Kiwi Glider – it’s automatic and has a USB charger since I”m expecting to be spending a lot of time in this chair. I’ll probably get a larger pillow and a little ottoman as well. We are both super thrilled with the purchase – we did not try this option before buying, but I liked how it is fully automatic. The fabric is eco-performance fabric, which is stain resistant. This glider will probably be moved into the nursery right now. We’ve got some houseguests in February, so I’m holding out to do any major overhauls to the guest bedrooms, but the glider also can’t live in my dining room until March.

Dinners this week

vegetarian enchiladas

My doctor wants me to focus on eating a bit more in my third trimester. So, I’ve been cooking up to good-to-me sounding foods. And, if I’m being honest, it’s been a balance between cooking at home – and getting baby some Chick Fil-A when I’m too tired to cook. I’m also personally kind of worried that I”m not eating enough vegetables, so I’ve been trying to add in some greens where I can. There are my vegetarian enchiladas that I made one night this week. I added in an entire bag of spinach. Adding spinach to my smoothies has also been a tasty way to get my greens.

Workouts this week

peloton

Another favorite has been moving my body how I can this week. I did tennis last night, which felt great because while it’s a good workout, you aren’t moving your body the entire time (at least not during a lesson). I did a 30-minute Peloton walk one night, and let’s just say – that a walking workout was equally as good as a 30 minute run. It was a bit nicer on my body as well.

Rainy weather

Houston had a massive storm blow through on Tuesday. This front brought in a ton of rain – and the cold. My puppies were sad they didn’t get a walk that day, but they stayed cozy.

Aaron and I were looking at some puppy photos earlier this week, and it was so fun to take a walk down memory lane. I remember when they arrived to our house like it was yesterday. I can’t believe they will be two in April (they might also possibly share a birthday with their human brother). Look how precious they were. They looked so similar it was hard to tell them apart, so we got Tex a blue bowtie and Cali had a pink bow!

I get asked a lot if we would go back in time – and still get two puppies. And the answer for me is absolutely yes. Now, it’s been (and continues to be) a work in progress. We’ve invested tons of time, money and training into these dogs. Golden Retrievers as a breed can be susceptible to health problems like hip dysplasia, bad allergies, chronic ear infections and cancer. So, we have both of them on pet insurance (which I could do a whole post about at some point). We’ve also invested time and money into training classes for them. And, of course, Aaron and I spend a ton of time with them each and every day on walks – and making sure they are fully exercised. The result is two happy, healthy, well-adjusted golden retriever siblings.

They are still incredibly excitable, but they are starting to calm down a bit. I’m so happy we got two, and I would do it all over again!

What we are up to this weekend

Another favorite of this week are some fun weekend activities. I’m doing lunch on Saturday with two former co-workers of mine. It’s been awhile since we all got together, so we are going to catch up. I’m looking forward to it. What’s on the menu? Tex Mex of course.

Aaron and I also have our infant CPR course on Sunday, which was one that I definitely wanted to make sure we attended. I’m not fabulous in emergencies (Aaron is), but I want to be prepared.

These are just a few of my favorite moments this week. Hope you all have a wonderful Friday and a very relaxing weekend.
