Three Favorite Items I’m Loving in Our New House

Happy Friday! We made it. I’m headed to the vet this morning with both dogs, so wish me luck, and I’m working away the rest of the afternoon. I have one big project that I’m trying to wrap up before the weekend (editing the Spring edition of one of our publications). We won’t be having a big Super Bowl party this weekend, but we are hosting a friend who is coming into town. So today, I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite items I’m loving!

If you are new here, my husband, Aaron, and I bought a new home in September of last year. You can read more about that here. Since then, we’ve upgraded some of our furniture and have been adding things to the new house here and there.

It’s also really important to note that we have two dogs: a yellow lab and a golden retriever, so we are always on the losing end of the dog hair battle in our house. Vacuuming is a (at least) once-daily daily chore in our home. But they are so cute – so how could you ever be mad at those faces?

new home

We moved from a three-story townhouse, into a single story home (all the praise hands). My senior golden was having a bit of trouble walking up and down three flights of stairs, and honestly, having a single-story home is just so much easier to handle. Since we’ve moved in, we’ve bought a couple of new items that I love, and I figured I”d share because some have really surprised me.

Roomba

The Roomba is the item I never knew I needed. But, now that I have one, I realize he’s the real MVP of our house. This is the exact model we have. Someone gave it to us as a housewarming gift, and we put him work. Since we received him, I run him at least once a day. He can also spot clean areas if you have a spill. I was a bit wary at first – how could he know my house? Would he get stuck? Eat cords? Scare my dogs? And the answer to all of those is not. I send him off to do his thing, and he navigates around weird spaces, goes over cords and the dogs pretty much stay out of his way after a bit of training. I love that he goes under my furniture, and I really feel like the Roomba and I are a team with all of the vacuuming that needs to happen in my house. I’m a Roomba fan for life.

Nespresso

The Nespresso is beloved item number two on my list. You should also note that this is a random list stemming from my head, and these are in no particular order. Now, I bought a Nespresso for my dad two Christmases ago. And honestly, I’ve been thinking about buying one for Aaron and I because the coffee is that good. But, our friend beat us to the punch, and he gifted us one for Christmas this year.

We have the vertuo model, with the larger pods. We love it. The coffee is nice a smooth with a fantastic layer of foam at the top. It’s the best way to wake up in the mornings.

Floating Solar Pool Light

One of the main reasons we bought this house was for the pool. Aaron and I will be in this all the time come summer. We have some truly wonderful friends, and this next favorite of mine is something that I (again) didn’t know that I needed, but our friends gifted it to us, and we love it. It’s the coolest thing. Now, our pool has lights that change color at night. But, our friends bought us: a solar-powered floating pool light.

I mean – how cool do these look at night? They change into 16 different colors. This is the brand we got, and I can’t wait to use it this summer once we open up the pool for the season.

Enjoy the weekend ahead. I think we are going to be doing a bit of golfing, grilling, and I have a drive by baby shower I’m attending for a close friend of mine.
