Wednesday Work Tip + Tumeric Latte Recipe

secret santa

Happy Wednesday. I have a couple of things for ya’ll today, including a work tip. First of all, are there any Bachelor fans out there? I’ve been a longtime fan of the show – like I’ve been watching since Trista and Ryan’s season. I typically have a group of girlfriends I watch with, but we are trying to keep it safe this year and keep up via text.

I’m not sure that I love the Clare-Tayshia season. On one hand, I love the fact that the dates seem a tad more realistic this time around. I mean, my husband and I fell in love at a dog park – that’s real life, folks. But, I think that staying in one location the entire season has been a bit of a stretch. I also tend to watched spoiled. Thank you, Reality Steve. I love to watch the show unfold knowing the outcome. It’s really the only way to watch. I won’t give away spoilers on here, but Ivan and Ben are my frontrunners this season.

golden retriever meme

Okay, back to regular-scheduled programming. I saw this meme the other day, and it really reminder me of Sawyer, my golden retriever. In fact, it describes the guy to a T.

I had the Ring guy out yesterday to install our Ring system. We discovered that ALL of our windows are double-sliding windows, which means, we need two sensors for each window. Off to go try to buy some Ring contact sensors in bulk.

And, I received such a fun surprise in the mail from my (not so secret) Santa. My work sent over some Christmas cards and a fun holiday package. We normally do a big gift exchange and holiday party, but not this year. We will celebrate over a festive Zoom call. If that isn’t the them of 2020, I’m not sure what is. Regardless, I’m still so thankful for my team and the fact that I have been able to keep working remotely this year, as I know it is not the same situation for everyone.

Wednesday work tip

Now that it’s taken me about 250 words to get to this point, I’m here to share with you a tried and true tip for all of you hard-working ladies out there who dabble in writing. It’s no surprise that a lot of communication-related projects fall under my wheelhouse. While I tend to follow AP Style, I turn to Grammar Girl for some of my most thought-provoking questions. And this one is timely. Christmas card season can be the worst: especially with a last name like Gomez.

And, well, Grammar Girl covers the majority of mess-ups in this post. I’m passing it along because my new last name has stumped many a friend and family member. I have seen my new last name written so many different ways. Here’s what Grammar Girl has to say:

THE QUICK AND DIRTY

  • You usually make family names plural by adding an “s” to the end. However, if the name ends in “s,” “x,” “z,” “ch,” or “sh,” you usually add an “es” instead (but there are exceptions).

By that rule, my name should be addressed: The Gomezes. I know that looks weird, so when in doubt, you can go with: The Gomez Family.

I’m writing all of this because I got into a discussion with several co-workers about how my name should be styled – along with other names who might end in those tricky little letters. You are welcome.

Get excited because I’m planning my holiday baking menu. I typically do about five different cookies, and I give them to my friends and neighbors. I’ll be back with some recipes over the next couple of weeks as I narrow it down to my top five this year.

Tumeric Latte Recipe

I’ve been drinking a latte of some sort most afternoons. Tumeric is packed with antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties and healthy nutrients. I experimented with the tumeric latte this week. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 cup almond milk (I used unsweeted vanilla), oat milk, cashew milk or your milk of choice
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. tumeric
  • 1-2 oz. of black tea or espresso
  1. Warm your almond milk (or milk of choice) in the microwave.
  2. Whisk in the cinnamon and tumeric.
  3. Add in your black tea or espresso.
  4. Drink immediately for a mid-day pick-me-up.
