Weekend Digest + Simple Weeknight Recipes

mom

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Maybe you celebrated your mom – or maybe you honored some strong female role models who have been present in your life. If Mother’s Day isn’t your thing, I hope you did something that made you happy. While Aaron and I didn’t physically spend Mother’s Day with our moms, we sent cards and chatted with them on the phone.

mom

This is a picture of me with my mom during my wedding rehearsal. My mom is just the best, and I certainly wish she were closer (it’s something we are working on over this next year). She’s retired now, but she’s always checking on me to see if I need anything – or if I’m doing okay! She used to send me the best care packages in college – and my friends still talk about them to this day.

And, this is my mother-in-law. I’m lucky to have such a good relationship with her, and I truly value her presence in my life. She gives great advice, and I love that she still challenges herself. This photo was taken during the Dallas 1/2 marathon (she’s also done the full marathon).

Self-care Saturday

dentist

Did I mention that I’ve been having some jaw pain recently? Turns out, I grind my teeth at night. So, a couple of weeks ago while I was at the dentist, I got fitted for a mouth guard that I’ll wear at night. I had to go pick up my new shall we call it “accessory” Saturday morning. I can’t say I love it, but my dentist told me it could also potentially improve my posture – and that’s the part of it that has me intrigued. So, I’m going to give it the ol’ college try for awhile. My dentist made one for me years ago, and I just didn’t keep up with it. Here’s to round two!

facial

After I picked up my mouth guard, I headed over to see my girl to get a facial. It’s one of my favorite days of the month, and I missed the entire month of April. My skin was in major need of some TLC, so she spent an hour and half working on me. We did some derma planing, she laminated my brows, she did some microdermabrasion and some extractions, we did a mask and she finished my session with these gloriously cold jade rollers on my face. If you’ve never tried some of those rollers fresh out of the refrigerator, you are missing out.

Summer makeup

tarte

We’ve officially reached the point in Houston weather where you feel like you are melting when you walk outside. I mean, we didn’t even get a bit of pre-summer summer weather. We dived right on in! It was in the 90s this weekend (and humid), so I’m slowly switching to some of my summer makeup tricks (spoiler alert: it involved lots of setting spray). But, I also picked up this matte finishing powder from Tarte that I want to try. It’s supposed to help set your makeup, give you a matte finish – and hydrate your skin. Stay tuned.

Sunday

church

We watched church from home yesterday morning. We spent some time in Proverbs 31!

snow cones

After church, we went to go do a grocery store pickup, and then we swung by for snow cones on the way home.

pool snack

I got some pool snacks ready because we had some friends over for some good ol’ pool time! Our pool is officially open for summer. You want a tip on a super quick and easy snack for the pool? Grab some chicken salad (I bought some that was pre-made at the store), and some Hawaiian rolls. I also put out some chips and salsa and a French Onion dip!

pool

The water felt fab! That was about it for our weekend, but before I let you go, here are some super simple weeknight meals that you can whip up for dinner this week.
