Weekend Edit + Festive week ahead

Jonathans the rub

Happy Tuesday, friends. Sorry I missed you yesterday, but I didn’t stop moving until about midnight on Sunday evening, and I was in some need of a few extra snooze-button hits yesterday morning. We had such a busy weekend, but we got so much done. Why were we so busy this weekend? It’s because we’ve got quite the week ahead of us. So, why don’t I get right into it.

Friday

I snuck out of my office for lunch with a co-worker on Friday. Here’s the thing about remote work – I’ve been interacting with several new hires whom I’ve never actually met in person. Recently, I found out that one lives in my area, so we set plans to meet for lunch. We went to Liberty Kitchen, and it was delicious as always. We had fun, and I went home to work for the rest of the afternoon.

19th street holiday market

And, on Friday evening, Aaron and I made it a date night to head down to Christmas on 19th Street. There is a street in the Heights that puts on a fun and festive holiday market each year. The stores stay up late, and they serve adult beverages, there’s live music, and it’s a great way to knock out some Christmas shopping by shopping local. My favorite store is Manready Mercantile.

I picked up a Christmas gift for Aaron that I’ve had my eye on for awhile. Every time we go in the store, they have something that catches my eye. These shoes are made from leather that comes from Texas cows, and they are all handmade. I figured Aaron needed a pair!

The Heights is a unique neighborhood in Houston that has a lot of history. It’s known for being artsy and quirky. One of the Houston’s art cars was parked on the street. We grabbed some dinner, and we called it a night.

Saturday

I woke up early Saturday morning with a goal to finish decorating my house for Christmas. But, I also had a couple of projects that Aaron needed to wrap up like painting a piece that goes above our stove and installing a new toilet seat.

Christmas decor

I’m not quite sure what goes on in my head sometimes, but I was bouncing from project to project on Saturday. I was pulling out my Christmas decor, which is stored in our garage, and I decided the garage floor needed to be swept. Before I knew it, I was cleaning my house, reorganizing the pantry, etc… Anyone else operate like that? Long story short, my house is now fully decorated for Christmas, and I also have an organized pantry and a really clean garage. I’ll share my Christmas house tour later this week.

I also had the Baylor football game on, and I was pumped that we won the Big XII championship. Sugar Bowl, here we come!!!! Sic ’em Bears.

peloton

My Apple Watch December challenge is to burn 13,800 calories over the course of the month. That equates to about 450 per day. So, I also had to get moving. Thank you, Peloton. I’ve really been enjoying taking some of the various classes. And I think it will be a nice complement to my other workouts. I get kind of competitive, which I guess is the whole point, and I love pushing myself by watching to see who else is taking the class in real time.

Jonathans the rub

Saturday evening, we had a birthday dinner for my friend, Alice. She’s celebrating her 74th birthday this Thursday, and we took her to Jonathan’s the Rub. Still have never had a bad meal at that place. My favorite appetizer this time was the sweet chili shrimp, and I got the the shrimp and grits.

Sunday

Sunday morning

We went to church Sunday morning. I was casual in my jumpsuit, which is so comfy! After that, we ran some Christmas errands and went grocery shopping. When we made it back home, I had a big project. We’ve got a surprise happening later this week, and my house needs to be clean. It’s been great motivation to finally find a place for every single box that’s been lying around in our guest bedroom. I did some organizing and got everything put away – and it feels darn good.

christmas crack

After that, I got to work in the kitchen making some of my Christmas Crack. My team was getting together for a Christmas lunch yesterday, and I wanted to bring them a little something. I would always make a big batch and bring it to the office, so I figured I’d bring my Christmas Crack to them this year. I’ll share the super simple recipe tomorrow.

By the time I had my house clean and my baking done, it was around midnight. So, while this weekend was a lot of checking those boxes off my to do list, I finally feel like I can kick back and enjoy the rest of the holiday season. I’ve got such a full week this week, and I kind of love it. I had my team Christmas party yesterday, and I have Zoo Lights tomorrow, we have a big surprise later this week! I’m ready to lean in and enjoy it all.

Happy Tuesday, friends.
