Weekend Edit+Last Week’s Surprise

Surprise visit

Happy Monday, friends. Sorry for being a bit out of pocket last week, but we had a ton going on. I’ll share more details about last week’s surprise in today’s post. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I can’t believe we only have 13 days until Christmas! I tried my hardest to do all the things like finish my Christmas shopping and get a head start on wrapping my gifts so I can enjoy the next couple of weeks without scrambling at the last minute.

We put on some Netflix holiday movies, while I wrapped presents. Love Hard was super cute.

Surprise visit

Last week we had a surprise visit from one of our very good friends from St. Louis. Here’s the thing, the visit was a surprise for my husband. Brent’s wife agreed to send him to come visit/work with Aaron for a couple of days, so we decided to surprise Aaron while we were at it.

I picked Brent up from the airport on Wednesday afternoon, and we headed back to the house to surprise Aaron. We pulled it off. Here is a video of the surprise moment. We had a full schedule packed. I plan to have dinner at the house on Wednesday evening so we could all catch up. Brent started out as a business relationship with Aaron in 2016, and it’s morphed into a really special friendship with both of our families over the years.

We grilled and a had a fabulous time catching up.

come and drink it

Aaron and I picked out this wine at the store because we wanted to give Brent a taste of Texas. It’s a Texas red blend, and it’s actually quite delicious. It’s just under $20 per bottle, and it’s a nice every day red. I’ve already purchased a second bottle.

B&B butchers

I let Aaron and Brent work on Thursday, but I took the day off from work. I took a couple of meetings, but they didn’t take up my entire day. My friend was in town, so I met her for a quick lunch. After lunch, I did a quick workout and we got ready for an early dinner at B&B Butchers (one of our favorite restaurants to take out-of-town guests). Brent is a big meat eater, so we knew we had to take him. The carpetbaggers were a home run with Brent.

We spent three hours with great company and a wonderful meal Thursday night. We were home by around 10, and we all went to bed early because we had to get Brent to the airport by 6:30 the following morning. It was a short visit, but Aaron and I will make the trip to St. Louis early next year so we can all spend time together.

Needless to say, by the time I was done working on Friday, I was exhausted from all of last week’s festivities, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. The holidays can be hectic, but it’s moments spent with our people that make me especially aware of some of the amazing people who have entered our lives over the years. I’m so thankful for our community.

Saturday

golden retrievers

Aaron let me sleep in Saturday morning, but I hit the ground running as soon as I woke up. We took the Spuds for a walk because the weather was so nice. They were tired out by the time we made it back.

I met my friend Alice and Lee for lunch to celebrate Alice’s official birthday, and we had ourselves the best little time. We went to Fuddruckers, which Alice happens to love! I hadn’t been to one in years, and I told her she could pick wherever she wanted to go, and she chose Fuddruckers. It’s actually quite delicious, and I’ll have to go back more frequently.

barnes and noble

After lunch, I headed back to do a quick work on the Peloton, and Aaron and I headed out to do some Christmas shopping. I wasn’t exactly sure what I needed to the last couple of people on my list, and Barnes and Noble always has a good selection. We found a couple of gifts when we were out shopping, and I think I’ll be able to finish up my shopping completely online.

My friend, Al, drew this lovely photo of Sawyer for me. It looks just like my Soy Boy. I can’t wait to frame it and hang it in my house. It’s such a thoughtful reminder of my boy!!!

We ended our evening by watching Christmas movies, while I wrapped gifts.

Sunday

We woke up early Sunday morning for church. The message this week was on giving yourself grace for past regrets – and following/living out God’s plan for your life. It was a great message for the holiday season.

instant pot chili

After church, I ran some errands and headed back home. Our cold front came in Friday, night so I made some of my chili for dinner!

I finished wrapping gifts, and we ended the night by watching the Holidate on Netflix.

I’m finally caught back up on sleep, and I’m ready to tackle this week!
