Weekend Wrap-up+Exciting News

Texas goldens

Happy Monday! I was sitting at my desk working this morning, and these beauties showed up at my door:

They were accompanied by this sweet note:

I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again – I’m so glad to have some of the best friends near and far. This was from mine and Aaron’s friend, Gary, who currently lives in Arizona. We are so blessed to have people in our corner who can truly help us celebrate successes ( it hasn’t always been that way in business, but I’ll save that for another post).

So, now, I get to stare at these gorgeous beauties all day! Not the worst way to start off our week. But, since this is a weekend recap, we had a jam-packed weekend, filled with some really exciting things.

We ended our week by trying a new restaurant on Friday evening. It had been raining alllllll day and was just generally muggy and dark outside. We decided to go with Italian, and our friend, Blair (who is our resident foodie), chose Lomonte’s. And, we will be back. Aaron and I have been looking for a restaurant with a great patio for Friday-night date nights. This place not only has a fantastic patio, but they have live music. The food was also delicious. I had the Lomonte’s pasta with the chicken!

Exciting News

My husband share with me that he had been keeping a bit of a secret. As you know, I’m still grieving the loss of Sawyer. He was my best guy and constant companion for the last ten years. He and I were both very attached to one another, and I feel his loss daily, and so does Buttercup. Aaron decided that we really are a family of four, so he broke the news that he’s been looking into Golden Retriever puppies for us. At first, I had really mixed feelings: I was sad because I didn’t want Sawyer to think we were replacing him, but I was also really excited about a fresh start. We’ve been talking about a puppy for the last couple of years, but we never got one because Sawyer would have been jealous.

Turns out, my friend has a golden retriever from the same breeder, and Aaron and I went out to meet the breeder on Saturday. You can imagine my shock (and just incredible delight) when I found out that this is what the dad looks like:

Trooper is a beautiful, red golden – who happens to look just like my Sawyer. And, he is just as sweet. Here is the mom, Rosie:

Just the sweetest girl. I think after meeting the parents, that we are going to go through with it. It felt so good to be around some golden retriever – there is just something special about them. And, now that I’ve had a chance to process my emotions, I’m actually really excited at the thought of having a puppy in the house. It’s a really good time because – hello, remote work. So, I can dedicate some good, quality training time with a puppy. Stay tuned!

And we wrapped up our Saturday night with dinner out with two of our new neighbors. Aaron and I believe in establishing community where we set our roots. Part of that means getting to know our neighbors. It’s always been a great idea, and we have some fabulous neighbors who we are lucky to call friends from our old neighborhood.

Sunday

While, we’ve made it back to in-person church the last several weekends, we had to watch virtually yesterday. Two of our friends are downsizing their business office, so we bought a desk-set for Aaron from them. They helped us move it into our house yesterday morning. And, we celebrated with a pancake brunch:

I tried to make waffles, but, ya win some, ya lose some:

The toppings lineup:

Trader Joe's pumpkin butter

All three are winners, but if I had to choose, the pumpkin butter is probably my fave.

Our pancakes were Kodiak Cakes – and delish.

We ran some errands, I did a workout (My Apple exercise goal is to get 1,180 exercise minutes for the month) and we ended our evening with an inaugural lounge in our new pool chaise lounge chairs.

And, if you would have told us a year ago that we would have our house with the pool that we’ve always wanted, I wasn’t sure it would be possible. We had looked at so many houses – and none of them fit the bill. Factor in a pandemic, and I thought our dream of owning a house would be put on the back burner. But, God answers prayers in some very mysterious ways, and it wasn’t lost on either of us that this was a dream that turned into reality. So, I’d like to start our week off with this:

Psalm 37:4

“Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

And, this verse is not about material possessions. For me, it’s about God’s perfect timing.
