Weekend Wrap-up + MLK Edition

bump

Happy Monday, friends. I know that it’s still technically part of the long weekend, but I somehow managed to schedule myself a dentist appointment this morning (and he’s somehow working). So, I’m up and ready for the day. The good news: I’m not working today. The bad: I still had to get up early for this appointment. The silver lining: I don’t have to miss work to go to this appointment, so I’m thankful that he’s working on a holiday weekend. I’ve got big plans for the rest of my day – like going grocery shopping, hopping on my Peloton for a bit and finishing my book!

chevron houston marathon

Here’s what we are normally up to on the Sunday of MLK weekend, which also happens to be the Chevron Houston Marathon weekend in Houston. The runners had kind of a warm, humid run yesterday, and I felt for them. If we aren’t running it, we normally try to pop over to cheer on the runners. So, when we were leaving church yesterday, which just happens to be right along part of the marathon course, I felt a bit of FOMO. Distance running isn’t exactly in the cards for me right now, but I’ll be back post-baby. In fact, my first distance race back could be the Houston half 2024!

Friday

This weekend was the perfect mix of relaxing and of fun! On Friday we got to see our little guy via ultrasound. I’m a little over 25 weeks now, and I’ve embraced that being “advanced maternal age” means more excuses to see our baby. The tech was able to get a 3-D view, and it was so neat to see some of his features in this view.

And then, I got to take my super fun glucose test. I hate having my blood drawn, and this particular lab hasn’t been great when I’ve had my blood drawn there in the past. So, I was already dreading it going into the whole ordeal. It wasn’t half as bad as I had it chalked up to be in my head, which was a win.

I also had the rest of my my appointments scheduled through to our due date, so things are getting real. 🙂 Aaron came with me and opted to stay for my glucose test, which was nice. He knows I hate having my blood drawn – and was worried that I wouldn’t feel well and wouldn’t want to drive myself home after the test. So, we enjoyed an impromptu lunch date once we wrapped up at the doctor’s office.

Saturday

bump

Speaking of things getting real – my bump has officially entered the chat. I’m past the phase of playing the “do I look like I ate too much for lunch” game. I had to head out to run errands on Saturday while Aaron worked. My game plan was to stock up on many of the medical essentials we will need for the baby, along with some household essentials that I’ve been putting off.

baby essentials

I didn’t walk away with any infant pain relief because the shelves were completely bare – I kid you not. So, I’m definitely going to make it a point to grab some infant Motrin and Tylenol when I see them back in the stores. These products are approved and recommended by several of my mom friends, so I knew I should go ahead and grab them to have on hand.

lightbulbs

You want to know one of the adult errands I hate the most? Shopping for lightbulbs. I even brought the exact lightbulb that I needed to replace, and it was so hard to find. Is lightbulb shopping problematic for anyone else – or just me? It doesn’t help that we have some unique fixtures in our home that require some specialty bulbs. I opted for something that looked similar and kept my fingers crossed it would do the job. It did work – praise the good Lord above.

Aaron and I decided to grab some dinner on Saturday evening – and I caught up on my book, snuggled with my puppies, and Aaron watched a movie.

Sunday

church

We opted for in-person church this morning. And after church, the plan was to go look for gliders for the nursery, but the marathon was blocking the main road to get to the store. So, we switched gears, grabbed some lunch and decided it just wasn’t in the cards for today.

The bump was large and in charge after we got done with lunch!

walk

I took myself on a solo walk to get some steps in, and the dogs also got a nice walk once I was done with my own walk. The weather was fabulous – and if you live in Texas, you know that it can change on a dime, so I was trying to enjoy it while it lasted.

And finally, I ended my Sunday with some happy mail. I was a bit late ordering my 2023 Erin Condren Life Planner this year. She finally arrived, and I got to work planning out the remainder of my January. I know it’s so old school, but I love to have a hard copy of my life – and a digital copy. And, more often than not, I find myself turning to hard copy. It’s simple (albeit a bit old school), but if you’re a visual person, it really helps to write things down!

That wraps up the short version of our long weekend. This week is kind of busy. I have two work retreats – both of which were supposed to be in person, but they have all moved virtual due to the surge in COVID cases in the Texas Medical Center/Houston. So, I’ve got lots of computer time ahead of me this week. I’m also trying to get a tennis lesson in at some point! Enjoy the short week, friends!
