Weekend Digest: A white sangria and a little Target haul

target haul

Happy Monday, friends. There is no better way to start your Monday morning than with a cup of Nespresso. My favorite way to make it is to froth some oat milk creamer with some cinnamon. It makes the creamiest cup of coffee. It’s a short week for me this week as we look toward Memorial Day weekend. I took Friday off for a nice, four-day weekend. We usually go to Belton to spend the long weekend with Aaron’s family, but we are staying in Houston this weekend because Aaron has some work to do, and we’ve been gone a lot lately.

Here’s what we were up to this weekend!

Tree Trimming

tree trimming

I’ve had tree trimming on my list for a long time. We weren’t sure when the last time was that our trees got some TLC, and it was time. That big one on the front especially needed some love because it has some big branches that sit right above our house. And, with hurricane season right around the corner, this was a priority. The crew arrived Saturday morning and got the job done in several hours. We had this done right in the knick of time because we had a big storm come through Saturday evening, and it took down several trees in our neighborhood. But, our freshly-trimmed tree didn’t have any problems.

A white sangria recipe

white sangria

I decided to make some white sangria because we were having some friends over on Sunday. Nothing says summer like a good poolside sangria. Now, when I spent a semester in Spain, there was a drink called a Tinto de Verano, which was a red sangria mixed with fresh lemonade. It was absolutely delicious, and every time summer rolls around, the taste of sangria transports me back to my time spent in Spain. Here’s my recipe:

white sangria
  • Bottle of sauvignon blanc – this bottle is less than $15, and it’s a good base
  • Fruit: I used strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and oranges in this one
  • Bottle of prosecco
  • Splash (or two or three) of brandy (this is the secret ingredient)

I let my sangria sit for about a day before serving – and drink poolside!

tex

Tex decided to help me put together my grocery list this weekend! He’s such a sweet guy, and he is my little shadow all day long!

peloton

I did a peloton workout this weekend. It wasn’t a live class, but I finished 8th out of the people taking the class the same time I did. I did a Becs Gentry class, and I always know she will put together a good workout!

Target Haul

I also ran to Target this weekend because three of my favorite people have birthdays tomorrow: my sister, our friend Brent, and my sister-in-law. They each share the same birthday, which is pretty special, and I needed to get some cards and treats!

While I was there, I decided to peruse their workout clothes. I have seen these Free People workout shorts all over the place, and I heard that Target has a great dupe. I wanted to see for myself. For the record, these Free People shorts are $30 right now, and they have so many different colors.

Sure enough, Target has shorts that are incredibly similar, and they were so comfy. I was an extra small, and their colors and sizes were fairly limited. I grabbed a black pair for myself.

Along with this tie dye tank! Now, let me tell you something about these shorts – they have pockets. I wore them on my Peloton workout to see if I could use them for running, and they are 100% a winner. They are $24, and it looks like they have more colors available if you purchase online. And, while I was at Target, I grabbed this cute little top. It will be super cute with a pair of faux leather shorts and sandals or a skirt. The ribbed body and the ruffle sleeves are so cute.

So, those were my Target finds, friends! I hope you had a great weekend, and I hope you have something fun planned for the long, Memorial Day weekend. My friend, Alice, is back in town, so I want to catch up with her, and I think we will be spending some more time out by the pool!
