Good morning and HAPPY MONDAY! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Ours was a weekend to remember: it was Boot Walk Weekend! After I finished Friday’s blog, I had a l-o-n-g day of work ahead of me. I worked straight through lunch and and before I knew it, 6 p.m. had arrived. It was a culmination of lots of deadlines piling up on me and an event that I’m hosting Monday evening.
Friday
I started Friday morning off with my first holiday cup of the season. I needed to get it in while it’s still cool here in Houston.
Throughout the day, I had some very special deliveries show up at my door. The first was my order of Nespresso holiday pods. I’ve already given the peppermint pinwheel a try, and it exceeded expectations. I also ordered the new forest almond and forest black flavors to try out as well. I’ll give those a try this week.
Then, my Boot Walk in a Box arrived to my door. It had this year’s shirt and some other fun goodies!
Here’s a close up of some of the goods – hand sanitizer, little bandaid kits, Boot Walk stickers and tattoos and more.
Aaron and I had a quick dinner date at Los Tios before calling it a night to get ready for Saturday’s Boot Walk.
Boot Walk Background
Now, if you aren’t familiar with the Boot Walk, it’s a 1.2 mile walk that MD Anderson puts on every year in support of cancer patients everywhere. 100% of the funds go back to support important research and education programs at MD Anderson, and they walk is currently in its 6th year.
I’ve done the walk all 6 years. The last two have been virtual due to COVID, but I’m hoping it is back in person next year. This year, my personal fundraising goal was $500, and my team’s overall fundraising goal was $25,000. I got a bit of a late fundraising start this year. In fact, I didn’t actively start fundraising until the week right before Halloween.
I’ve been so busy work wise, and I just didn’t have the time to do my initial fundraising push. So, I figured I would text a couple of friends who could help get me to the $500 goal. Fairly quickly, and thanks to some amazing friends and family, I met my $500 goal, and I was well on my way to $1,000. I’m so thrilled to report, that I’m at $1,460. My friend’s company matched his $200 donation, so I’ll be at $1,660, which I’m so thankful for. My team is about $1,000 away from meeting that $25,000 goal. You can read more about the walk here!
Why I walk
This year, I dedicated my Boot Walk in honor of my friend’s family. But, my family has been touched by cancer in various ways (my grandfather battled prostate cancer before he ultimately passed away), and so I walk for all those who are currently undergoing treatment, those who just received a diagnosis and those who are cancer survivors. We are in this together!
2021 Boot Walk
I think this has been the best Boot Walk weather since the event started. And, because it was virtual, Aaron and I walked in our own neighborhood. I wanted to do six miles in honor of 6 years of the event. We had a little photo op with the dogs before we started our walk.
And, I had Aaron take some quick pics of me with my Boot Walk gear on.
Then, we headed out for a walk – after I swapped my boots out for some walking shoes. We walked six miles in about 70-degree weather, and it was perfect.
I’m thrilled to report that the event has raised more than $1.5 million total (and counting)!!!!!
Thanks for coming along on my Boot Walk journey. After we were done walking, I met Alice to go get pedicures, which was the perfect way to end Boot Walk season 🙂
The color is Essie’s recessionista, and I think I might have to buy that polish for myself.
