Friday Favorites: Texas Cold Front edition

popcorn for the people

Happy Friday, Friends. I promise we will be back to regularly scheduled programming within a week or two. My meetings schedule isn’t going to be as bad over the next couple of weeks. If you live in Texas, you might be having a snow day – especially if you are in Dallas. We didn’t get any snow here in Houston, and it doesn’t sound like we will, but we woke up to weather in the upper 20s this morning! We don’t expect things to get super bad here in Houston, and the worst is behind us (I hope).

cold front Texas

This was my temperature in my car yesterday evening. And you can see my gas light on, so I headed to the grab some gas shortly after that photo was taken. Sometimes, when we have a “weather event” in Texas, people can freak out – and the lines for gas get really long, grocery stores run out of food, etc… But, luckily, cooler heads prevailed this time, and I was in and out with my gas in no time.

mint hot chocolate

I ordered this mint hot chocolate mix recently, and I had a cup last night. I was kind of hoping for more of a minty flavor, but maybe I just didn’t add enough? Regardless, a cup of hot chocolate when it’s cold out is the best fix for a dreary day.

Apple Watch

I completed my January Apple Watch challenge. My goal for the month was to go 152.2 miles. It sure seems like a whole lot of miles, but it’s about 10,000 steps a day, which I try to get anyways. I completed the challenge on the last day in January! My new February goal is to burn 13,900 calories.

peloton

Speaking of, I was happy to get some outdoor running in this past weekend. I am not a fan of the cold, so I was indoor running on the Peloton this week. I finished first in a previously recorded Peloton class against the people who were in the class! I love the “live” aspect of the Peloton, and I’ve seen some improvement in my overall pace.

I missed out on my tennis lesson this week due to the weather. If it wasn’t raining, it sure was cold. We decided to postpone for next week when everything is hopefully much warmer.

golden retriever

Just make yourself comfortable why don’t you, Tex? Dogs aren’t allowed on the couch (at least that’s what I keep telling myself). This is how I found him earlier this week in the middle of the day.

Hapi Art

My artwork for my kitchen finally came in. If you’ve been reading here for awhile, you know that my kitchen has a lot of white brick – which we love. But, I knew I wanted to add some color. So, when I found Hapi Art, I knew that I needed one of the pieces. It’s a bit of an investment, but these pieces will be kept around for a long while. It’s going to go on this wall in my kitchen. The previous owners had this wire frame up there – not quite sure why. I don’t love it, so we are going to cut the wire – and see what we might be able to do about the frame.

house

And one of my most favorite Friday favorites was a special delivery from Popcorn for the People. It’s a nonprofit that employees individuals who have autism and other disabilities. As you know, I grew up with a sister who has cerebral palsy, and giving people who are disabled the ability to work and make a difference is everything.

Here are the flavors we received:

We received the white cheddar flavor, the chocolate espresso and the Chicago cheese. So good! These would make great gifts for Valentine’s Day.

That’s all I’ve got for you today, but I’ll be back next week. You have a wonderful weekend. Stay warm, read a good book, curl up by the fire, have some hot chocolate – and just get cozy!
