Halloween Weekend Recap

Baylor ut game

Happy Monday! I’m coming off of my own sugar high from this Halloween and Waco weekend, and I’m glad to be back in my home office ready to take on this week. I hope that you had a wonderful Halloween weekend – I know I sure did. We were passing out candy last night until about 9! I bought four massive bags of candy, and we went through 3 and a half!

Houston's first halloween message

But, before I recap the weekend, I’m sharing this. My pastor created this for his Halloween message, and I thought it was so clever.

Friday

I took Friday off since we were headed out of town Friday afternoon to start our Waco Weekend. We had our dog sitter coming to stay at our house, so I was doing the whole cleaning shakedown, prepping my guest bedroom and all that other fun stuff. I did a grocery pickup at H-E-B and a Petsmart run for dog food before we could leave.

Baylor Campus

We headed out for Waco mid-afternoon, and we made there right in time for dinner. We met our friends at the AirBnb we were sharing (more about that later, but it was the cutest house) and headed out to drive around campus and get some good eats! That’s the Baylor Science building in the photo above. I spent lots of hours studying there and taking classes in that building!

We went to Vitek’s for dinner. It (was) this tiny little local BBQ joint when I was in school there. But, the year after we graduated, it underwent a massive expansion. The new space is huge and much more accommodating to its fan base. It’s a local and student favorite, and it is always crowded. I always get the Gut Pack when I go. If ya know, ya know!

We headed back to the house after dinner to watch the Game 3 of the World Series. Go ‘Stros! It was a big sports weekend, friends. We lost the game and called it a night.

Saturday: Waco weekend

The Baylor/UT game started at 11, so we needed to be up kind of early. We wanted to pop by the book store and grab some coffee at Common Grounds, which is hands down still my favorite coffee joint. We also wanted to do some tailgating before the game.

Barrington bags | college gameday bags

If you’ve been to any sporting event lately, you know that you either have to carry a clear bag – or the tiniest bag that ever lived. I’m a big bag type of gal, so it was hard to find a little bag that would fit my needs. I found Barrington Bags through a friend, and not only does she have the perfect collegiate colors (you design your own), but she’s got a ton of different pattens and sizes. This bag has served me well at all my Baylor games over the last couple of years.

We parked in our lot, and walked to the stadium. We tailgated a bit before we headed to our seats, and we were hoping they would be in the shade. Spoiler alert: they were not in the shade, but what.a.game. There have been a lot of politics at play, and if you follow any sort of college football you know that UT will be leaving the Big XII in the near future. The Baylor/UT game has always been a rivalry since they are right down the street. It was awesome to beat them at home!

Neither of our husbands went to Baylor, but I love how they embrace the school spirit right alongside us. After the game, we headed to go see the Baylor Bears!

After the game, we all headed back to shower and headed to dinner at Baris, which was my favorite Italian food spot when I was in school there. It was as delicious as ever. And, after dinner, we had to watch Game 4 of the World Series. When I said it was a big sports weekend, I wasn’t kidding 🙂

Sunday

The boys headed out super early Sunday morning because they had tickets to the Texans game. Mariam and I took our time and hit the road. We were back in Houston around 2. Waco weekend was a blast, and I’ll recap in greater detail this week.

instant pot chili

I spent some time with my pups – I sure did miss them this weekend. I got my Instant Pot chili going in my crockpot, unpacked, let the dogs swim for a bit and got ready for the trick-or-treaters.

halloween 2021

Aaron made it back just in time for trick-or-treating to start, and the dogs helped me pass out candy. While I wanted to finish off the night with a scary movie, I am so invested in the Houston Astros, that I needed to watch Game 5. I hope you all have. wonderful week.
