Our weekend at the Lakeway Resort and Spa in Austin

Lakeway Austin Resort and Spa

We headed out of town for a long-ish weekend, and it could not have been more refreshing. One of our best friends had a birthday, so we decided to head to the Lakeway Resort and Spa in Austin.

I stayed there a couple of years ago for her Bachelorette party, so pre-COVID, and we had the best time. This was a video from her Bachelorette weekend, and we had zero fun at all.

Tyler’s birthday weekend could not have come at a better time, because I desperately needed to get out of town to escape from our home renovations. We are in the “hurry up to wait” period of time. Our adjuster came out, and he’s putting together an assessment of damages for us. So, I’m not starting any sort of work until we figure out the numbers. But, that’s not what this post is about!

I worked a half day on Friday, so we headed to Austin around 2 p.m. Tyler and Mariam came to pick us up. And, I had our dog sitter watching our dogs in the house. What should have been a three hour trip, turned into about four hours because…. traffic. But, it was well worth the wait.

We got to the resort around 6, and we had dinner reservations at the restaurant on site for 6:30 p.m. We had Lakeview rooms of Lake Travis, and you just can’t beat that. I grew up by the water, so I love to be by and in the water.

I had the Lakeway Paloma cocktail as my pre-dinner beverage, and it was delish. We sat outside on the balcony overlooking the pool, and the views (and weather were fantastic). The food was just okay. I mean, Austin has such a great food scene, but we were just wanting convenience over good food, and this did the job. I got a pizza, the boys got some steaks and Mariam had a salad. We finished off the evening on the outside bar with some wine!

Saturday

The day started off a bit misty outside. But, we weren’t going to let that spoil our fun.

We had breakfast at the restaurant and headed down to the pool. They were nice enough to make Tyler a birthday pancake! Note: their pool is normally heated, but I guess someone dropped the ball on the propane to heat the pool. So, by the time we got down to the pool, it was still in the process of heating up. I’m pretty “go with the flow,” so I was content to sit in the hot tub with an adult beverage while the pool heated up.

Lake Austin Resort and Spa

Lakeway Resort and Spa has fantastic pools. As you saw from the video above. It had a pool designated for children, an adult pool and a hot tub. All overlook the lake. They have a swim up bar and tons of chairs so you can spread out. Pre-COVID, you were also able to order food out by the pool, but now you can only get it to go.

We spent several hours down by the pool, and it was great once it finally warmed up. Then, we headed out to get ready for dinner at The Grove. They have a pretty hefty menu, and a fantastic wine selection. The location in Bee Caves has the best views! I had the forbidden rice bowl with some shrimp, Aaron and Tyler had the pork chop and Mariam had a pizza. All the food was delicious. And, because we are no longer in our 20s, I’m pretty sure we were back at the hotel and in bed by midnight.

Sunday

Before we headed out of town on Sunday morning, we stopped to meet Mariam’s sister and her husband for brunch at Kerbey Lane. If you know, you know! All in all, it was a fun weekend, and much needed. Tyler has been one of our best friends for years, and Mariam has fit right in ever since they met! Already planning our next little trip!

Lakeway Austin Resort and Spa COVID polices

I did want to update you on what type of COVID policies are in place. Since Texas has done away with the mask mandate, many business are still requiring you to wear a mask. Mask-wearing was enforced when you were in the lobby of the hotel and entering into any restaurants on site.

I can’t say it was enforced in the bar area right off the lobby, but there was enough space that we were able to maintain a good distance from most others there. It was pretty crowded, but it’s also a pretty popular wedding venue – and it was spring break weekend. They’ve got hand sanitizer stations everywhere, and I felt pretty space for the most part!
