Life Lately+Our First Cool Front

breakfast

Happy Wednesday, friends. I’m starting this morning off with my old tried and true: my greek yogurt with granola and strawberries. One of the things I’ll miss most as we say goodbye to summer, is the summer fruits. Fresh peaches, fresh strawberries, nectarines and watermelons, I’m talking to you.

I also made some batches of my chia seed pudding last night to have some snacks on hand during the week. Chia seeds are a great fiber addition to your diet, but they don’t have high protein content, so I always add in some almond butter – and some of my protein granola. This time I used Trader Joe’s pumpkin spice blend to a couple of my servings!

One of my favorite shows of all time started last night: Bachelor in Paradise. I might start doing recaps in a couple of weeks. I haven’t watched the last couple of seasons of the Bachelor/ette, so a lot of these people are new faces, but I recognize a couple of Michelle’s guys! This show is way more entertaining than the Bachelor/ette these days, and it’s been too long since it’s been on our screens!

What I’m Reading

Authors)

I finished Ruth Ware’s “The It Girl,” and I decided to start another of her books: The Lying Game. “The It Girl” kept me guessing until the end. I thought I had the plot all figured out, and then my theory got thrown out the window – several times. It was a good, fast read if you are into suspense! I’ll keep you updated on The Lying Game.

First cool front

houston walk

Our first “cool front” made its way into Houston yesterday morning. It was 65 when I woke up yesterday, and it was significantly way less humid (all you Houston ladies know what I’m talking about). My hair sends a big thank you to the fall weather. It warmed up to 90, but we will take a “cool front” when we can get it. And, you better believe I made it outside for a lunchtime walk around my neighborhood today.

fall home decor

Some of my neighbors have started putting out their fall decorations, and I’ve held off until now, but I think it’s time. All that to say, I might go ahead and plaster fall all over my house this weekend. I change my mantle decor up every year, and I have some cute pumpkins for my candlesticks this year. Stay tuned. Let’s see where the weekend takes me. We have such a busy October, that I’m trying to savor the remainder of my September downtime while I can.

October

houston pumpkin carving

Speaking of October – we hit the ground running come the first week of October, which happens to be this Saturday. I’m trying to take each event as it comes, but it’s easy to get stressed out about all that’s on the agenda, so I’ll spell it out here:

  • The pups are getting spayed and neutered the first week in October.
  • I’ve got another in-person work event (several actually)
  • Aaron is planning a bachelor party later in October (and I”m helping him).
  • I’m co-hosting a couple’s shower.
  • We’ve got some friends coming into town for a weekend of fun.
  • We finish the month off with a wedding weekend.

And while I realize these are all fun things to be celebrated, I can’t help but feel a little anxious to make sure that I can be as present as possible at home – and professionally. My plan of attack is to take it all in stride and handle things as they come my way. I’ve got my list, and I’m as organized as I can be!

Sadly, this will be the first year that we won’t be attending my favorite pumpkin carving party in several years – but there is always next year!

Bonus Fall Recipe

pumpkin banana bread

And, because this post has unexpectedly taken on October and fall vibes, I’ll leave you with my pumpkin banana bread recipe. In fact, I’ve got some ripe bananas that need to be used, that I will probably be making this at some point this week. You can make a loaf, let it chill, cut it and freeze it. I freeze slices separately and pop them out, reheat them in the microwave for about 45 seconds, and they are delicious!

Happy Wednesday!
