Today is going to be a different kind of post, but we are living in a different kind of world than we were just last week even. My heart is heavy after reading and listening to the news about the terror that is going on in Afghanistan. I’m not going to pretend like I know the entire context of what’s happening – or even suggest ways of fixing it. That’s not my place. But, what I do know is that the people of Aghanistan need prayers in a big way right now.
So today, I’m sharing some prayers to pray – and some ways that you can make a tangible difference.
I’m spending some time this week listening and learning and reading so I can gain a better understanding of what’s going on. Proverbs 18:10 shares that God is our refuge always – even when things get scary or when problems can seem insurmountable. I’ve seen it in my own life – and in my husband’s life, and I know that God hasn’t left the people of Afghanistan alone.
I believe in the power of prayer, and the people of Afghanistan need you to pray for them.
Specific prayers
Christians in Afghanistan are especially at risk. There are brave men and women of God who will be persecuted because of their faith. They need our prayers more than ever before.
Ways to help
Save the Children: You can donate to Save the Children to help children in Afghanistan right now. Children and families are displaced and scared. Many have left the only home they’ve ever known. You can donate to help today. This organization provides aid to displaced families.
Muslim Hands: This organization has teams on the ground distributing aid. Many people are injured and in need of food, water and shelter. Your donations will go to their emergency appeal, which allows them to help those in greatest need – quickly.
International Rescue Committee: Donating to this organization will help their teams of people on the ground in Afghanistan to stay and deliver urgent humanitarian aid.
As I learn of other reputable organizations to donate to – places that can help make a tangible difference in the lives of those living through this war, I’ll share them.
