Weekend Edit: Babies and Broadway

Hamilton

Happy Monday! I’m coming at you this morning armed with coffee (no surprise there)! This weekend flew by with all kinds of fun things. Everyone talks about the “Sunday Scaries,” but no one ever mentions the “Monday Morning Scaries.” I really try hard to separate myself from work and email over the weekend. So, come Monday morning, I’m not sure what’s transpired over the weekend, and it can be a bit daunting. It’s always a bit of a Monday morning surprise. However, this week is going to be the week of getting some big things off my plate, including a project that I need out the door by the end of the day today. My Monday mornings always start off like this:

Our pool guy is always here bright and early, so I pay him.

Then, I always try to prep whatever I’m planning to make for dinner that evening. Tonight, I’m going real easy, and real healthy: Soyaki Chicken Tenders with some broccoli.

I take a pound of boneless, skinless chicken tenders and marinate them all day in Trader Joe’s Soyaki sauce. If you haven’t heard of it, you can thank me later. It’s delicious as a marinade for proteins. You can also pour some of it over a grain. Either way, I literally dump about a quarter of a cup over my chicken and let it marinade all day. Then, I plan on popping those right onto a sheet pan, along with some broccoli and cooking for about 20-25 minutes. Super easy.

After that, I always have a 9:30 a.m. meeting, so I try to get through all my emails before that 9:30 meeting. That’s Monday morning in a nutshell. My husband normally does the dog feeding and bathroom in the mornings, because I do all that for their evening routine. Teamwork!

Friday

peloton

Backing up a bit to Friday. I had a very productive Friday. I had all the plans of popping out of my house to grab lunch, but I got deep into a project I was working on and just never looked back. Before I knew it, it was 5:30, and it was time to stop. I felt a bit brain dead after that, so I jumped on the Peloton for a half hour run to shake off my day. I did a Progression Run, which means you get progressively faster over time, and I ended up first in the class of 15 people. I failed to beat my personal record, though.

After that, I felt refreshed – and hungry – and Aaron was home by that time, so we headed over to Chick-Fil-A. Sidenote here: when I was in my 20s, I had to be out and about – especially on a Friday evening. Whether it was at a bar, or dinner with a group of friends, I felt the need to always be out. Now that I’m in my 30s, I much prefer to not be out at the bar scene on a Friday night. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love a good dinner out with friends on a Friday – or to have people over to the house – or even to go watch a baseball game. But, I’m also really content just staying in. I don’t know if we can thank the pandemic for that – or Aaron – who always reminds me that it’s okay to just breath and relax a bit. Nonetheless, I’m happy to be in a spot where I’m content to just be.

Saturday

I had to get up bright and early Saturday morning to run to Target. It wasn’t a leisurely Target run – it was a run in, grab what I needed, and run back out and home type of Target run. I had a baby shower at 11, and I still needed to wrap my gift, buy a baby book and card and get myself presentable.

But, friends, I made it on time! We celebrated the mama-to-be for a couple of hours (and I loved all the pink). The dad-to-be on the right hand side it one of mine (and my husband’s) best friends. I’m so glad we love his wife too!!!!

Costco lawn

After that, I headed home, and my husband was wrapping up with his Saturday work, so we decided to head to Costco. Pro-tip for homeowners here: right around March, Costco (at least in Texas) starts selling their outdoor lawn care items. The pups have really destroyed parts of our lawn – they do this really fun thing where they like to rip out our grass :). So, we bought some seed and mulch for Aaron to spread on our lawn. It should fill in nicely.

Then, it was time for a snack, so we grabbed some bubble tea from a new (to us) place recommended by a friend. I had the coffee milk tea, and Aaron had some strawberry lychee tea.

To close out our Saturday evening, I placed my grocery order for pick-up on Sunday, cleaned up a bit around the house, threw in some loads of laundry and played with the Spuds.

Sunday

Sunday morning we woke up and headed to church. Parking has been a bit crazy lately, and it can take a while to find a spot. Luckily, we found one quickly and we made it to the service on time! We are reading a book out of Proverbs each day in the month of March. Some great advice on wisdom and leadership, and I invite you to read along with me.

We got home, and walked the Spuds. Then, we played with the Spuds some more.

I took a glorious hour-long nap. I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this before, but I am self-proclaimed nap queen. I can nap anywhere, anytime. The ideal nap is about 20-30 minutes so you wake up feeling refreshed and not sluggish. However, I cannot remember the last time that I took a nap, but this nap was so great because I was headed to….. Hamilton with some girlfriends.

Hamilton

I haven’t been to a broadway show since the end of 2019, and I was so glad to be back. I drove us, and we opted for valet so the pregnant mama didn’t have to walk so far.

Hamilton

This show was every bit as good as I thought it would be. The music was fabulous (and I’ve been listening to it on repeat in anticipation to see the real deal), and the actors were equally as fantastic. Highly recommend if it’s going to be in your city!

And, that’s all I’ve got today. It was a weekend filled with Broadway and Babies!
