Weekend Edit + Thinking Ahead

pool

Happy Monday, friends. A new week with new possibilities lies ahead, friends. Here in Houston, we are gearing up for one of our hottest months of the year. August is typically hot and humid (which sounds like most of June and July so far). This is one of my favorite weeks of the year because it’s our anniversary week. This Friday marks six (!) years of marriage for Aaron and I, and I’m looking forward to celebrating us.

This weekend was all about thinking ahead so we are prepared. Whether that’s meal prepping breakfasts and lunches for easy items to grab and go when life gets busy – or thinking long term about a commitment purchase that can fit our needs for a long time. I guess that’s the true definition of adulting 🙂

Hilton Head

I’ll share more about our anniversary later this week, but for now, I’ll share what we were up to this weekend. You should know that I was really bad about taking photos this weekend – so this is your advance warning. But, here’s what we were up to this weekend.

Puppy sitting

Petey

We were dog sitting this weekend. Our friend runs an animal rescue, and she was headed out of town, so we agreed to watch Petey Pablo. Here’s the thing. Our spuds are still very much puppies. And Petey Pablo is a tiny guy (he’s part chihuahua and part lots of other things). Imagine two large and in charge pups that are 10 times your size…. you would probably be a little hesitant too. It’s fair to say that the Spuds loved Petey, but the feeling was not mutual.

Petey needs a home that does not have other dogs – or children. He needs a relatively quiet space with someone who has the time to dedicate to working out some behavioral issues that are long-ingrained in him – as well as time to get him housebroken. Here’s the thing – he’s a sweet guy, but he’s got some issues. He goes home later today, and the Spuds will be happy to have free reign of the house again.

Rain

Speaking of the Spuds. We finally got a good bit of rain on Friday. I met two work friends for lunch, and I could see the clouds rolling in on my way home. But, it looked like the skies cleared for the remainder of the day. After I logged off at the end of my day, I let the Spuds in the pool. And, as soon as they jumped in, it started to rain, which did not phase them at. all. When I say these dogs love the water…. I really mean it.

Saturday

Starbucks

I slept in on Saturday. And while I was sleeping, Aaron grabbed us some Starbucks. I spent some time with Petey and the Spuds, and I did a Peloton progression run. A progression run is great to help build and maintain speed. I’m 9 runs away from my Century run! After that, Aaron had finished wrapping up some things at work, so we went couch shopping. When we moved in 2020, we were able to use our same couch, but neither of us love the couch. So, we’ve been talking about a new couch for a long time.

Lovesac

We’ve ultimately decided on a Lovesac. We realize it’s an investment piece, but the product is so versatile and really fits our needs as family. We can wash every piece of the couch, you can add on and reconfigure as your needs change. Aaron also wants the Stealthtech wireless speaker system as well. So, on Saturday, we decided to go look in person. While we haven’t officially decided on a color, fabric or a configuration, we know we want one. Their Labor Day sale is calling our name.

While we didn’t walk away with a couch this past weekend, we did purchase a Supersac. They are so comfy, and Aaron needed a new piece for his office. It arrives this week, and I can’t wait to test it out. I can just see myself reading lots of books on this thing.

After our Lovesac adventure, we grabbed some dinner to take over to visit Alice (who just had surgery). She’s been recovering, and it’s been tough, so we took over some dinner – and stayed awhile to chat. It was nice to see her – I’ve missed her.

Sunday

We headed to church on Sunday morning and I did a bit of meal prepping. I made my breakfast burritos.

I also prepped some Greek chicken for quick lunches this week. I like to stick it in a wrap – or even a salad.

I did a quick yoga session, and I Aaron and I set up shop in the pool for the rest of the afternoon.

We ended our weekend with a sweet treat. No Sunday scaries here.
