First Weekend of March

masraffs Houston

It’s so strange to be thinking about what we were doing this time last year. This first weekend of March in 2020 was filled with uncertainty and anxiety as the first COVID-19 case made its way to Houston. It would be my last week working in the office – and our last time getting together with a large group of our friends.

Fast forward to the first weekend of March in 2021, and we’ve adapted. The light is certainly at the end of the tunnel. And we were blessed with a gorgeous weekend here in Houston.

masraffs Houston

I had a dentist appointment Friday morning before work, and it was a fairly uneventful day after that. I needed some human interaction beyond my computer screen, so Aaron and I decided to forego Friday night pizza night for a nice dinner out at Masraff’s with one of our friends. #treatyourself. We ate all the things, but I think that my scallops and my blackberry ginger margarita were the true winners.

Saturday

Terry Hershey Park | Houston | cycling

I spent Saturday morning planning an upcoming weekend trip with one of my friends and putting together plans for an upcoming trip in June. Then, Aaron and I got out on our bikes for 19 miles. Now, we’ve done the same 19 miles lots of times. I don’t know if it’s a combination of sheer exhaustion from the stress of our home repairs over the last couple of weeks, but I felt every mile. It was also really windy. I had so many things to check off my to do list after my ride, but I had to take a quick nap (that turned into about an hour). And it was everything I needed and more.

spin mop

After my nap, I headed to grab some things at Target. The re-piping that we were doing to our house created multiple cuts through our drywall – and looooooots of dust. My floors needed to be mopped – bad. The ol’ Swiffer Wetjet wasn’t going to cut it. So, I got this spin mop that is apparently all the rage for pandemic cleaning (you know you’re old when….). Never ever did I think I’d be on here typing accolades about a mop, but I kind of love it. And I’m definitely keeping it. This is the exact one I have.

Girl Scout cookies

These Girl Scout cookies were another win. One of our neighbors was selling them, so Aaron and I managed to snag two boxes. The toast-yay are new this year, and they are supposed to taste like Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

Sunday

Home office renovation

We started our Sunday off with church online. And, I took my new mop for a test spin. I needed to deep clean my office area because that’s where they took out the ceiling and all the insulation (and dust) that came with it. I used the hottest water possible and 1 teaspoon of powdered Tide (courtesy of @gocleanco) and cleaned those floors three times. And WOW. What a difference.

Addicks

One of our neighbors told us that if we took our usual path behind our house – down the hill – that we would come to a pond. So, we decided to get out for a walk and explore. And we discovered this gem about a mile away from our house. There are definitely fish in it because they were jumping around. Houston always amazes me. We are a massive city – and our urban sprawl stretches far and wide. But, there are little hidden gems like this all around if you look hard enough. We were short on time, but I’m sure we will go exploring down there a bit more.

marriage class

We finished our weekend off with the marriage class we are taking through our church. It’s a four-week series, and this week, the topic was staying in love. Aaron and I have been married 4 and a half years, and we’ve learned that it’s really important to intentionally work on our marriage. Part of that involves the recreational activities that we can enjoy together (like riding our bikes, walking and running) – and part of that is putting in the work (like this class) to make it better.

Happy Monday, friends. Hope you have a fabulous week ahead of you!
