Bachelor Recap

Bachelor Recap: Fantasy Suite Week

Like every Tuesday, I am recapping this week’s episode of The Bachelor. If you need to get caught up, you can read what’s gone on in previous weeks here.

THE BACHELOR – (ABC/Craig Sjodin) MATT JAMES

If you remember, last week I was concerned with the previews I saw for this particular episode. It showed Matt reconnecting with his dad on screen. And it was just as bad as I thought it might be. The conversation that Matt and his dad had should have been a conversation off-screen. I felt like the show saw an opportunity to capture a conversation that had the potential to up their ratings, but it came off as exploitative. I felt bad for Matt, and I hope that he and his father have the chance to reconnect off-screen and take the time to work through some of the past hurts.

Fantasy Suite Date 1: Michelle

THE BACHELOR – (ABC/Craig Sjodin) MATT JAMES, MICHELLE

Michelle was up first. I personally think she has one of the best connections with Matt. He seems like he can really be himself around her. But, something tells me he doesn’t end up picking her, which I’ll get to in a bit.

They had a traditional “Dutch spa day” for their date. And I’m glad it was her and not me. They started off with their feet in an oatmeal bath. Then, they started smearing sticks of butter on each other (ew). Once they were adequately greasy, they jumped in a tub of milk. No thank you. They seemed to enjoy themselves, and I’m just counting my blessings that my. husband has never suggested we go on a date to a Dutch spa.

They move on to dinner where Michelle tells Matt she loves him. And… his response: crickets. (MICHELLE – RUN). He just leaned straight in for a kiss without even acknowledging or responding to her. He’s just not that into you.

Fantasy Suite Date 2: Bri

THE BACHELOR – (ABC/Craig Sjodin) BRI, MATT JAMES

Bri is up next. And poor Bri always gets stuck on the wilderness dates. They always look pretty cold. And for a second, I thought they were going to have Matt and Bri camp for their Fantasy Suite. Now, I like the outdoors just as much as the next guy, but I also really like a good shower and a comfy bed.

But, this recap isn’t about me, it’s about Matt and Bri. They start their date off on a little hike through the woods of the Nemacolin Resort. They pitch a tent, they build a bonfire and roast s’mores. It was cute.

During their entire day, Matt and Bri didn’t really dive in to any sort of deep conversation. Which, if you are expecting to get engaged to someone, I’d be drilling the heck out of them. I just think their relationship is a bit more surface level and lacks some depth that’s necessary to move forward.

Fantasy Suite Date 3: Rachael

THE BACHELOR – (ABC/Craig Sjodin) MATT JAMES, RACHAEL

Rachel had the last Fantasy Suite date. And she spent the whole week moping around the resort. So, by the time she actually had time with Matt, she decided to address some of her concerns.

He really just told her what he thought she wanted to hear. After that, they got back to making some pottery. Now, about three episodes ago, Rachael told Matt that she was falling in love with him. And, he basically said it back. So, based on that, Rachael is my pick to win this thing. Going into the evening portion of their date, Rachael reiterates to Matt the fact that she’s in love with him. And he seems the most receptive to the idea with Rachael than any of the other women.

Rose Ceremony

This brings us to the final rose ceremony before finale week. Michelle gets the first rose. Rachael receives the second rose. And Bri gets sent home. She’s sad about it, but I want to just give her a little pep talk through the screen. The girl seems like she has such a bright future ahead of her. She’s sweet and smart and kind and caring! I’m rooting for her to find her happiness.

Next Monday is the finale, and I think I heard somewhere that it’s three (!!!) hours. Wow. Do we really need to stretch it out that much? Hope you enjoyed following along with my guilty pleasure this week. Have a great Tuesday!
