Friday Favorites: Fourth of July

4th of july

Happy Friday, friends! I’m logging off early today to start the long weekend off right! We’ve got a few plans this weekend. I’ve got happy hour with a friend this afternoon, dinner with some friends tomorrow, and we are having some friends over to spend some time in the pool and grill on Monday! It’s one of my favorite holidays. Aaron and I always like to squeeze in a bike ride on the 4th, and there will also be a snow cone in there at some point.

A Fourth of July Favorite: A Moscow mule

Houston texas | Fourth of July

I love a good cocktail for the Fourth. During COVID, Aaron and I perfected the Moscow Mule, which is a great drink for the holiday weekend. Here’s our favorite recipe.

  • 2 parts spicy ginger beer (or you can use regular ginger beer, but I like that extra kick). I use the fever tree brand.
  • I part Vodka of your choice ( I love the Western Son brand because they have delicious flavors like prickly pear and watermelon)
  • Squeeze of lime
  • Ice

Coffee

malk

I haven’t been sleeping great this week for some reason, so coffee has been keeping me going. And, I’ve been turning to my afternoon cappuccino. I have officially found the best frothing milk, and it’s Malk. It’s organic – and gum-free, which is why I think it froths so well. It’s also really delicious. I’m a big Malk gal over here – give it a try if you haven’t already. Look at the foam!

Puppy School

The Spuds started puppy school this week, and let’s just say that one of them needs a bit more work than the other :). As expected, Tex was kind of a wild man during his first lesson. I rated him a D+, but he’s also still got a ton of puppy in him, and this is just proof that puppy school will be really good for him. Cali did great. I’m now looking into toys that help stimulate them, like frozen kongs and lick mats. Because Cali And Tex are siblings, Aaron and I were separated during class to keep each dog focused on their handler.

Fourth of July fireworks

One of my favorite Fourth of July memories was during COVID. We lived about a mile away from where they shot the fireworks off, and for some reason, the streets were completely shut down. So, Aaron and I rode our bikes as close as we could get for the fireworks. We had a fabulous view of Downtown while we waited for it to get dark enough for the show.

Fourth of July Favorite Recipes

cowboy caviar

If you need a recipe for your Fourth of July, why not try my Cowboy Caviar? I’ve got this on my Fourth of July menu. I’ve also got my guac that I know will be in rotation on Monday as well.

And, to be completely honest with you, I’ll probably make my Italian chopped salad as well.

Workouts

pride class

I’ve had a week of good workouts, and I’m happy to admit that I finished my June Apple Watch goal, which was to log (what seemed like) 1 million exercise hours. Really just 1,450, but it felt like a lot. I’ve been incorporating yoga back into my routine. But last night, I found myself needing about 30 more exercise minutes to completely my goal. I decided to take Matt’s pride class. He had some hilarious gems in there, and it was just an overall, good mood class.

golden retriever

And finally, I ended my night with some snugs from the Spuds. Person space does not exist with golden retrievers, my friends!

So, I hope you all have a wonderful July 4th holiday.
