Life Lately + Houston Summers

kayaking

I hope you all are having a great week. I’m sharing some things that have been on my mind lately, along with some fun things to do during Houston summers.

I’m still over here trying to mentally recover from losing Buttercup late last week. It’s hard to believe that we started 2021 with two members of the fam who just aren’t with us anymore. It took me some time after losing Sawyer, just like I know it will take some time after losing Buttercup. Our friends told us they ordered a memorial stone for Buttercup. Here’s the one they sent for Sawyer:

Upcoming Anniversary

I’m out of the majorly busy season for work, so I’m hoping it’s as quiet as it can be until the end of August (but check back with me on that). My new fiscal year starts September 1. I’ve got a week off coming up in August that I’m looking forward to, and Aaron and I have our upcoming five-year anniversary. We spent our 4-year anniversary in Rockport last year (part I and part II). We’ve got something fun planned for 5-years, and, while Hawaii is normally at the top of our list (it’s where we went for our honeymoon), the puppies are too young to leave for an extended amount of time at the moment.

Rockport, TX

This weekend, I’ve got some lunch plans with a friend – and, I’m really excited about watching the Olympics. Anyone else? I am so excited that they are in Tokyo this year. I visited Japan in 2019 with two of my girlfriends, and it was the best trip. I need to do a travel guide about the week we spent there. It was a magical trip in every way.

Housewarming gifts

Roomba

When we moved into our new house in September, we got some really neat housewarming gifts that I really didn’t know I needed. They are all incredibly useful. One of my friends recently purchased a new home, so I need to think of a housewarming gift that is also really useful. I’m thinking about the Roomba. Ya’ll know how much I love my Roomba: it’s a beloved member of my cleaning posse. And, with two golden retrievers, I vacuum A TON.

Houston golden retrievers

I was skeptical at first, but gosh, I really love that thing. I can let him run when I’m making dinner – or as soon as I wrap up work (he’s kind of noisy to run while I’m working). Now that the I can trust the pups a little bit more (I didn’t want to have an incident where our Roomba was going to run through an accident I didn’t catch), I try to run him once a day. So, that’s at the top of my list for a gift!

Houston summers

No Frizz | Humidity Shield

If ya live in Houston, you know it’s been raining pretty much every day at some point for the last three weeks. And the humidity that follows is literally the worst. I have super thick hair, and any hint of humidity, and she’s out of control. I mentioned I purchased a new product, which I’ve been using for almost two months now, and I love-love-love it. It’s the Living Proof anti-humidity frizz shield. You’re welcome! It smells wonderful too.

And, also, if you’ve reached the point in your Houston summer where you are looking for some fun things to do, I’ve got a couple of fun daytrips – or even weekend trips you should try.

buffalo bayou | biking

If you read my post yesterday, biking Buffalo Bayou is fun for you and your spouse – or even the whole fam.

Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge

You could also go explore Anahuac for the day. If it’s too hot, you can drive around the main part of the nature preserve in your car.

Brazos Bend State Park
obviously this photo was not taken during the summer months 🙂

You could go camp or hike – or even bike Brazos Bend.

eastern glades

You could even explore the new Eastern Glades at Memorial Park, which is always a favorite of mine.

Houston Arboretum

The Houston Arboretum is pet – and family friendly, and many of their trails are in the shade.

And last, but certainly not least, go get yourself some shave ice from Friohana – they are the best in town.

Well, friends. I hope this is fun summer list for ya’ll – especially if you live in Houston.
