Meet our new golden retriever puppies

Texas Golden Retriever Puppies

Happy Thursday, friends. I realize that I’ve missed the last two days of blogging because….. life. Remember on Monday when I said that I had some exciting news to share? Well, Aaron and I are the proud owners of TWO brand new golden retriever puppies: Tex and Cali. And they are freakin’ precious. And yes, I most certainly said two.

Here’s how it happened. We originally were going to get the little boy, and he was the second to last puppy in the litter. We sat on it for about two weeks, and Aaron decided that it might not be a bad idea to get his little sister too. That way, they will always have a little friend.

And, oh boy do we have a lot to catch up on here. Aaron and I went with two of our friends on our little vacation to Punta de Mita, Mexico for a long weekend (which I’ll recap next week). We were all set to fly back into Houston Monday afternoon, and we were planning to pick the puppies up on Tuesday. But, Aaron decided that we would just pick them up Monday night instead. I took Tuesday off from work, so that way, I would have the whole day to get them acclimated to their new house. So, we landed in the airport, ran home real fast to drop off our luggage, and got back in the car for a two hour drive to Lufkin, Texas to get our pups!

So, we picked up Tex and Cali on Monday evening, and we’ve been in love ever since. Now, when I say in love, I mean…. they sure are cute. But, two is definitely a lot of action, and I’m exhausted. Between trying to get myself caught up from the days I was off from work, balancing two brand new pups – and our house renovations, we’ve got our work cut out for us. I know that if we are diligent in our training, we will have them up to speed over the next several months. And, our house renovations should only take about two weeks.

Tex and Cali

Tex, the male, is a tad bit bigger and a little lighter than Cali. He’s our little troublemaker, and so far, he loves chewing on cords and fingers. He also loves to mess with his sister. He is incredibly sweet, and I just love him.

Cali, the female, is the darker of the two. She is just the sweetest little thing. She’s definitely a bit timid, but that’s okay – it’s a big world out there. She loves to cuddle, and I’m just enjoying how tiny they are right now.

They still have their puppy breath, and they are only about three pounds each. They came from a litter of 11, so they’ve got some growing to do. Luckily, my friend’s mom, Alice, has come over the last couple of days to give me an extra set of hands, and it’s so appreciated. We had ourselves the best time at the pet store stocking up on supplies.

I will be crate training the little “golden nugs” because Sawyer loved his “room.” It was his safe space, and was a space to call his. I think every dog needs that sense of security in its life, so we are definitely going to try to persevere. So far, it hasn’t been terrible, and I think it’s because they have each other!

And while no dog could ever take the place of Sawyer, we are looking forward to creating some different, wonderful memories with the newest members of our family. So, stay tuned on the progress of our little golden nugs.
