The Bachelorette Recap: Week 5

The Bachelorette

The start of Week 5 starts off in Minneapolis, Minnesota where Michelle grew up. She down to 11 guys. And can we take a second to appreciate how cute Michelle’s parents are? You can find last week’s recap here.

First one on one date in Minnesota

There is a one on one date right off the bat. Joe is the lucky guy. He’s actually from Minnesota, and Michelle briefly slid into his dm’s prior to the show. They go to a Twins game where Michelle gets to throw the first pitch. They hit up a couple of other spots and end their afternoon by shooting some hoops at her high school. Joe reveals during the dinner portion of the date that he’s had a problem opening up in relationships in the past. Joe manages to dig a bit deeper and reveals how an injury created a mental hurdle for him. I think many can relate to Joe’s struggles to be taken out a sport before he was ready.

He gets the rose!

Group Date

THE BACHELORETTE – ABC/Craig Sjodin

Casey, Ronnie, Martin, Leroy, Rick, Clayton, Olu, Chris and Brandon all are picked to go on the group date. This group date takes place at the Minnesota Vikings stadium. And, it’s Viking themed, but not the kind you might expect. Out come actual Viking warriors. The guys take part in a series of Viking challenges. (The introvert in me is dying over the war cry that they all have to perform.)

They sling some logs around and dress up as Vikings. Well, most of the men are dressed up as Vikings. They’ve got Chris dressed up as a horse, and I’m dying. They eat a bunch of foods that I wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole: cow brains, fish brains…..

Trouble is brewing. The guys are still mad at Chris. Remember last week? When he through Nayte – and the rest of the men – under the bus. They aren’t over it. More on this in a second.

The evening portion of the date begins, and Michelle starts off by talking with Clayton. Spoiler ahead: Clayton is our next Bachelor, but we haven’t really seen much from him. Sure – he’s a good looking guy, he’s tall, he’s got dimples, he’s got charisma, but I kind of keep waiting for the other shoe to fall. What’s his story, what makes Clayton – well, Clayton?

Chris doesn’t make the best use of the evening portion of the date, and he doesn’t speak to Michelle at all. I’m interested to see how this manifests a bit later in the episode.

One on one with Nayte

THE BACHELORETTE – ABC/Craig Sjodin

The date starts off on Lake Minnetonka, which looks gorgeous. I’ve never been, but I feel like this needs to be added to my bucket list. The date starts off with Nayte and Michelle on a boat, and two of Michelle’s best girlfriends join in. And ya’ll, these ladies aren’t taking it easy on him. They are asking the hard hitting questions, and I’m here for it. They want the tea in the house.

Meanwhile, back at the house, Chris just won’t stop.

Nayte and Michelle head to the evening portion of their date. But first, let’s take a second to appreciate Michelle’s dress. That’s the dress she was wearing, and I love that it’s a take on the men’s shirts that are so popular right now. This is the dress she wore here.

The dinner portion of the date is going well – until Chris shows up and interrupts it. Is he for real right now? He sure is. He wants to know why she faked it during the group date. She shares that she is looking for someone who can stand and support her when she speaks, instead of having someone speak for her. She sends him home, but gives Nayte the rose at the end of the evening.

Cocktail party and rose ceremony

THE BACHELORETTE – ABC/Craig Sjodin

Michelle takes her time during the cocktail party to explore her relationships with the remaining ten men. She starts with Rick, and he tries to convince her (in a not-so-convincing way) that he could consider moving to Minnesota. She celebrates Brandon’s birthday by giving him a cake. And, there are still a couple of men who we haven’t seen much of.

Here’s a list of the men who receive roses:

  • Clayton (group date rose)
  • Nayte (one on one date rose)
  • Joe (one on one date rose)
  • Olu
  • Rick
  • Brandon
  • Martin
  • Rodney

Leroy and Casey get sent home.
