The Bachelor Recap: Episode 2

Happy Tuesday, friends. I’m back today with your Episode 2: Bachelor Recap. If you are just now getting caught up – you haven’t missed much. The typical shenanigans happened last week as our new bachelor, Matt, met all of the women vying for his heart this season.

Abigail, the first deaf contestant, received both the first kiss and the first impression rose. “Queen” Victoria did a pretty solid job at establishing herself as this season’s villain.

Episode 2

Episode two starts out with our dear Chris Harrison announcing that there would be two one-on-one dates and one group date. But, here’s the kicker, because there are so many women this season, not every woman will get to participate. Cue: the drama.

First one on one date goes to Bri, the first woman out of the limo, and she wore one of my personal favorite Night 1 dresses (she also happens to be one of my front runners). She’s a communications manager. Matt (or should I say the producers) takes Bri on a 4-wheeling, ax-throwing and hot tub date. Bri counts Matt’s abs, and he has 8 according to Bri. Bri feels super comfortable and at home sitting in a hot tub next to Matt – even though she’s known him all of two minutes. He leans in for a kiss – and thinks Bri might be what he’s missing in his life.

During the night portion of the date, Bri reveals that her mom got pregnant with her when she was 13. Whaaaaat? During quarantine, Bri revealed that she is missing her sense of home. Her mom is pregnant and engaged to someone else, and Bri feels like she’s displaced from that part of her mom’s life. Bri’s dad was around, but not really present. This resonates with Matt because his dad just wasn’t around. Their sense of family and what they want seems very much aligned. Matt gives Bri the rose. I actually could see these two crazy kids working out.

Meanwhile, the drama is already ensuing at the resort. Queen Victoria is on a rampage in regards to the fact that she feels like she’s stuck in a sorority house. (And hey: I was in a sorority – and there is always that one person. Don’t be that person, Victoria). It’s been one day, and most of the women seem to be more than annoyed with Victoria. Victoria, you’ve seen the show before right?

Group Date

Chelsea, Serena P., Abigail, Sydney, Ileana, Kristin, Lauren, Jessenia, Serena C., Kit, Kaili, Katie, MJ, Mari, Pieper, Rachael and Victoria all get chosen to go on the group date. Soooo, 18 women?

The women walk up to find Matt posing for pics for a photographer dressed in a fur coat and a pink suit. Matt thought it might be fun to do a little wedding photoshoot with the ladies. What could go wrong?

Victoria’s turn is up. And one of the most awkward kisses in Bachelor Nation follows. She just leaned right in and went for it. Matt seemed less than enthused.

Chris Harrison shows up next to throw a wrench in the day’s plans. He basically says the women are going to have to fight in order to have time with Matt. A little game of “Capture the Heart.” The ladies are supposed to dip their wedding bouquets, purses and other objects in paint and throw them at the their competitors. (okaaaay). The winning team gets to spend the evening with Matt. The red team wins! The MVB Award (most valuable bride) went to Mari, who gets to join Matt with the red team.

Our losing team is exhausting. Even Katie, the vibrator girl, was in tears at the end of it.

Lauren (ABC/Craig Sjodin)

Matt gives the group date rose to Lauren, the attorney, during the evening portion of the date.

Sidebar here. Can we please talk about Nemacolin? It’s looks beautiful – and I’m convinced that Clare and Tayshia got the short end of the stick last season.

The second one on one date

Sarah. (ABC/Craig Sjodin)

Sarah gets the second one on one date of this episode. She’s our former journalist turned caregiver for her dad. Matt takes her on a biplane. Sarah seems like good people. After they get off their terrifying plane ride in the tiny, super exposed and open plane, they head to a campfire. Matt shares that he’s looking for his “emergency contact” in life. I double-checked with my husband that we were each other’s emergency contacts – and good news: we are. Anyways, Sarah and Matt headed to the second part of the date, and homegirl is going to have to open up about her dad and his battle with ALS. Sarah shares that she is her dad’s caregiver, and I have major respect for that. Matt shares that faith is the only thing that has gotten him through some tough times in life. It’s not lost on him that she’s on The Bachelor, instead of with her dad. Sarah is good people. Matt gives Sarah the rose.

Cocktail Party+Rose Ceremony

The ladies all head into the cocktail party. Serena C. has a pair of really aggressive sparkly boots on.

The women who did not get dates this week were vying to pull Matt aside to lock in their roses. Marylynn gets an orchid from Matt. And poor Matt just doesn’t know the drama he just caused between Marylynn and Victoria. I’m prettttty sure the producers had something to do with that. It wouldn’t be a cocktail party without some drama, and Victoria (our resident villain) brings it. She pulls Matt aside to share that Marylynn used to be her roommate and paints poor Marylynn as a bully. Matt thinks that’s “whack,” and tries to get to the bottom of the situation between the two ladies.

Before the ladies can get this ironed out, Chris Harrison announces that it’s time for the rose ceremony. The episode ends with Sarah almost fainting and leaves us with a good ol’ “To Be Continued.”

I’ll see you back here, Wednesday, friends!
