Summer 2022

Corazon playero

Happy Wednesday. It’s been raining this whole week in Houston, so it only seems appropriate to officially close the book on Summer of 2022. And, while fall doesn’t officially start until the end of September, the season feels like it’s already starting to transition. No worries, I won’t be closing the book on Summer just yet – I sense some pool days still in our future, but I thought it might be fun to recap all of our summer fun. It’s been such a good one.

Sno cones

Have I mentioned that we live incredibly close to a sno cone shop? And, sno cones just scream summer. When I was in college, one of my best friends and I would would visit Mr. Sno in Waco. You could buy sno cones for a dollar. It was a weekly stop during college summers. Aaron, our friends, and I paid the sno cone shop many a visit this summer. The pups even got in on the fun. My favorite flavor is a sour pink lemonade.

Puppy School

Another favorite this summer was getting the puppies graduated from puppy school. We were having a difficult time aligning our schedules leading up to summer, but an evening class opened up, so Aaron and I made it happen. My sweet babies graduated with flying colors (even though learning is a lifelong process with Goldens). If you remember, Tex received the “Best Overall” award. I’m actually looking into possibly starting both dogs into the next class in early 2023.

Celebrations

We celebrated Aaron’s birthday this summer. It’s important to note that this has been one of the hottest summers on record for Houston. So, when I was thinking about what to do for his birthday, I was leaning heavily toward a pool party. But, we did a lot of those this summer, so I decided to do a Top Golf party!

anniversary

Aaron and I also celebrated our 6 year anniversary this summer. We usually try to take a trip to make some new memories, but we traveled in July – and I had travel in August already planned – so work needed attention from both of us. Regardless, we had ourselves a fab time celebrating 6(!) years in Houston.

I won an award for some of the work that I do! It now sits proudly in my home office!

Pool Time

We spent almost every weekend in the pool this summer. Sundays after church were our go to days to have people over to drink, pool and eat! I served up some delicious pool snacks all summer long, and I’ll keep them in my archives for summer 2023 (which is sure to be a good one).

And the spuds? They spent almost every day in the pool this summer. It was such a great thing to have because it was too hot to walk them first thing in the evening. But, I was able to let them in the pool to get some good exercise each and every day.

Hilton Head

We made some wonderful memories with our friends who are like family in Hilton Head this year. We swam, we beached, we rode bikes, we kayaked and we boated. Our hearts were full after that trip!

Cabo

And last, but certainly not least, was my bestie’s bachelorette trip to Cabo! As you get older, friendships can change a bit just due to life circumstances. But, I’m proud to say that our friendship has been going since our freshman year in college – it’s looked a little different at different stages in our life, but a good friend is a constant. Looking forward to getting our girl married later this year.

What’s next?

Don’t worry – I won’t start waxing poetic about fall quite yet. But thanks for joining me on this ride for summer 2022. It treated us so well, and I feel adequately refreshed, relaxed – and have managed to stave off some of that work burnout so I am ready to take on this new fiscal year. This little season of life we are in right now is quite sweet, and I’m learning to just be sometimes in my contentment. Aaron and I are about to enter into several months of chaos – we’ve got weddings, we’ve got a bachelor party we are planning, we’ve got couple’s showers, we’ve got baby showers, I’ve got a birthday and we both have this little thing called work 🙂 We are going to take it day by day and try to savor these moments!

I’ll be back Friday with my favorites from this week!
